A Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon combining power and elegance
The estate
Vérité is a California wine estate born of the friendship and shared passion for great wines that brought together two renowned winemakers, Pierre Seillan and Jess Jackson.
While Pierre Seillan is recognized for his Saint-Émilion wines (Château Lassègue) and Tuscan wines (domaine d’Arcanum), his friend Jess Jackson has been behind great California wines for over thirty years. A visionary, he pursued the ambition of creating an iconic wine that would express, beyond borders, the identity of the great terroirs of Sonoma County.
During a trip to California in 1997, Pierre Seillan quickly became aware of the potential of this winegrowing area and, together with Jess Jackson, founded the Vérité estate.
Following the death of Jess Jackson in 2011, Vérité has been run by Pierre Seillan as well as his daughter Hélène.
The vineyard
The Vérité estate vineyard spans four distinct appellations in Sonoma County: Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill, Bennett Valley and Knights Valley. This diversity makes it possible to work with more than forty different soil types, including volcanic, gravelly, limestone and clay soils. The plots lie in the foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains, benefiting from the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, which provides essential thermal regulation. This mosaic of terroirs forms the foundation of the micro-cru philosophy developed by Pierre Seillan.
The vintage
The 2014 vintage in California benefited from an exceptional growing cycle in the Sonoma County region, with optimal early flowering followed by fine veraison. Weather conditions were consistently favorable, with regular sunshine and no excessive heat. Merlot and Cabernet Franc reached perfect ripeness, while Cabernet Sauvignon enjoyed an extended ripening period, developing fruit-forward expressions with elegant, spicy tannins. Harvest took place between September 3 and 20.
Vinification and aging
Vinification of La Joie 2014 is based on the micro-cru philosophy: more than fifty distinct parcels are vinified separately before being blended. Each block is harvested at optimal ripeness, then fermented individually. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, with a majority of new wood, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving the expression of each terroir.
