Château de Malengin : Eve 2019

Blackcurrant and touches of rose petal on the nose. This has good energy, a darker profile with the focus on sweet tobacco, liquorice and ripe blackberry jam. Chewy, concentrated and upfront with good balance and freshness. A heartier style that packs a punch. Tannins are integrated and have a fine quality to them. I like this style with the sweet liquorice and dark fruit. Asks for roast beef.

A perfumed nose of wild berries, dark plums, clay and raw chocolate. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and lively acidity. Great freshness and purity of fruit here with a silky texture. Some salty undertones. Aged in amphora. Drink from 2024.

The 2019 Eve offers light raspberry and crushed strawberry scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly scrawny tannins and some attenuation on the finish.

Flowers, licorice, cocoa and spicy plums are easy to find in this medium-bodied, fresh, elegant, forward, soft-textured wine. Drink from 2022 to 2028.

Layered and discreet aromas of sweet red fruit, fine leather and floral hints. Its texture is already supple and balanced, with good layers, personality and a powerful finish.

Another wine from the team of Edmond de Rothschild, the 2019 Château De Malengin Eve offers subtle dark cherry and redcurrant-like fruits as well as some earthy, herbal, and chocolaty notes. These carry to a medium- to full-bodied, balanced, rock-solid 2019 that has good mid-palate depth and some obvious Saint-Emilion limestone-influenced minerality on the finish. It too will have 8–10 years of longevity.

Owned by the Edmond de Rothschild family of Château Clarke in Listrac, the wine is polished, rich with black fruits. Licorice and bitter chocolate need to soften as the wine matures and it becomes powerful and generous. Drink from 2025.
