Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Château du Moulin-à-Vent 2024

Tasting notes

Colour
This Château du Moulin-à-Vent 2024 displays a deep ruby colour, typical of Gamay grown on granite.

Nose
The nose is vibrant, driven by notes of cherry and blueberry.

Palate
The palate is round and balanced, supported by firm yet ripe tannins that give it a fine structure. The long finish closes on a spicy touch of black pepper.

Food and Wine Pairings

This wine pairs naturally with red meats and roast poultry, as well as slow-cooked dishes such as a daube or braised beef cheeks, whose sauce softens the tannins. It also lends itself to more indulgent pairings, such as duck breast with dark fruits, or spicier ones, such as seasoned grilled meats and regional charcuterie. Soft or semi-hard cheeses, such as a tomme, also find a fine echo in its structure.

A Red from Beaujolais Rooted in the Moulin-à-Vent Appellation

The Estate

This Château du Moulin-à-Vent is an estate in Beaujolais based in Romanèche-Thorins, with origins dating back to 1732. Developed in the 19th century under the impetus of its owner Philiberte Pommier, it took its current name when the AOCs were created in 1936. Since 2009, it has belonged to the Parinet family, with Édouard Parinet at the helm, assisted by oenologist Brice Laffond. The estate extends over approximately 30 hectares entirely dedicated to the Moulin-à-Vent appellation and has been committed to organic viticulture since 2013, certified from the 2024 vintage.

The Vineyard

The estate's vineyard covers approximately 30 hectares, all located within the Moulin-à-Vent appellation, in Romanèche-Thorins. The vines grow on granitic soils rich in manganese and iron oxides, which give the wines their characteristic tannic structure. Farmed organically since the conversion begun in 2021, certified from this vintage, they also benefit from practices inspired by biodynamics and from a massal selection carried out for more than ten years to preserve the genetic diversity of Gamay. The old vines are worked by horse to protect their root systems, and yields are deliberately kept low, at around 32 hectolitres per hectare.

The Vintage

The 2024 vintage unfolded in a challenging climatic context, marked by strong pressure from fungal diseases due to the humidity of the season. The estate's vines, farmed without synthetic products, nevertheless showed good health resistance, limiting yield variations between plots despite these difficult conditions.

Grape Variety

This wine is made from Gamay Noir à jus blanc, the only red grape variety permitted in the Moulin-à-Vent appellation.
