Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Quarts 2019 from Domaine Belargus
Tasting
Appearance
The color stands out for its crystalline brilliance and radiant luminosity.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet unveils a complex palette where bergamot, acacia, and Sicilian lemon mingle. Notes of toasted almond blend with aromas of grapefruit and candied citrus. The nose also reveals delicious touches of vanilla, apricot, and quince.
Palate
The attack is full and generous. The wine expresses remarkable density and sustained intensity. The silky texture coats the palate with flavors of poached pear. A slight mineral bitterness, a true signature of the terroir, brings complexity and brilliance to the whole. The finish is long-lasting, leaving a memorable impression. The profile evokes an almost mellow style while preserving freshness and elegance.
Food and wine pairings
This wine harmonizes perfectly with grilled spiny lobster with olive oil and basil. It also pairs brilliantly with poultry such as chicken or turkey, as well as seafood and shellfish.
Serving and aging
The Quarts 2019 is ideally served at a temperature of 12°C.
An exceptional dry Chenin Blanc from the Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru in Anjou
The estate
Founded in 2018 by Ivan Massonnat, a former Parisian financier turned winemaker, Domaine Belargus spans twenty-four exceptional hectares in Anjou Noir, in the heart of the Loire Valley. The estate brings together prestigious plots including the Coteau des Treilles monopole and ten hectares in the Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru. Adrien Moreau in the cellar and Amaury Chartier in the vineyard manage the estate biodynamically, vinifying each plot separately according to an approach inspired by Burgundian climats. With limited yields and extended aging, Belargus is dedicated exclusively to Chenin Blanc and has quickly won over international critics.
The vineyard
The wine comes from the historic "Les Quarts" lieu-dit, a plot that gave its name to the Quarts-de-Chaume Grand Cru appellation. Domaine Belargus owns nearly half of this seven-hectare lieu-dit, benefiting from a full southern exposure. The vines rest on Precambrian schists that confer finesse and length to the wines. Although stemming from a Grand Cru terroir renowned for its sweet wines, this cuvée is vinified as a dry wine and marketed under the Anjou AOC.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage was marked by frost episodes in April and May which drastically reduced yields to around twelve hectoliters per hectare.
Winemaking and aging
Quarts 2019 was aged in stainless steel tanks on lees for nearly a year.
Grape variety
This Loire wine is 100% Chenin Blanc.
