Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Morey-Saint-Denis Village "En la Rue de Vergy" 2020 from Domaine Bruno Clair

Tasting

Appearance

The appearance unveils a golden yellow hue with brilliant highlights.

Nose

The nose reveals a complex and delicate bouquet, marked by aromas of honeysuckle and lime blossom, accompanied by notes of hazelnut and pear. Floral and fruity nuances intertwine with elegance.

Palate

On the palate, this white wine seduces with its vibrancy and tension. The structure is balanced, supported by a fresh acidity that underpins the whole. The saline and mineral character, a legacy of the limestone terroir, expresses itself fully leading to a persistent and taut finish.

Food and wine pairings

This white Morey-Saint-Denis is the ideal accompaniment to a seafood platter, grilled noble fish or aged goat cheeses. It also pairs very well with poultry in cream sauce.

Service and cellaring

The Morey-Saint-Denis Village "En la Rue de Vergy" 2020 can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve until around 2032. It is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C.

A rare and mineral white Morey-Saint-Denis, the expression of an exceptional terroir in Burgundy

The estate

Created in 1979, Domaine Bruno Clair today spans 27 hectares spread across eight communes of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Heir to a family winemaking tradition dating back to the early 19th century, the estate is now managed by Bruno and Isabelle Clair's three children: Édouard, Margaux and Arthur. Recognized by the greatest guides with four stars in Bettane & Desseauve, the estate produces 32 different appellations and owns prestigious plots in the Bonnes-Mares and Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grands Crus. The estate's philosophy rests on environmentally friendly viticulture and precise vinification aimed at expressing the singularity of each Burgundian terroir.

The vineyard

The white Morey-Saint-Denis Village "En la Rue de Vergy" comes from plots located at the top of the slope, just above the Clos de Tart Grand Cru. The "En la Rue de Vergy" lieu-dit takes its name from the old road that linked the village of Morey-Saint-Denis to the medieval site of Vergy. The Chardonnay vines, planted in 1996, thrive on a limestone soil composed of Prémeaux limestone and white oolites. South-east facing at an altitude of 320 meters, these 57-are plots benefit from a cool climate and poor soil that naturally concentrates aromas. The shallow soil resting directly on the limestone rock confers the wine its very particular mineral characteristics.

The vintage

The 2020 vintage in Burgundy offered favorable conditions for the production of exceptional white wines. The year allowed for optimal grape ripeness while preserving remarkable natural acidity. Balanced climatic conditions favored the development of complex aromatic characters and an ideal freshness for aging.

Winemaking and aging

The Morey-Saint-Denis Village "En la Rue de Vergy" 2020 is vinified in stainless steel tanks for two to three weeks. After fermentation with indigenous yeasts, the wine is transferred to oak barrels for an aging period of 18 months. About 15% new oak is used to preserve the purity of the fruit and the mineral expression of the terroir. The wine rests on lees without stirring, a technique that favors finesse and tension rather than richness and fat. This respectful approach allows the limestone to fully express itself in the finished wine.
