The estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in Burgundy. Now run by the seventh generation of the family, Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate spans more than 120 hectares across the finest appellations of the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise. The estate counts 12 Grands Crus and 22 Premiers Crus in its vineyard holdings. In July 2025, coinciding with the estate’s bicentennial, Domaine Faiveley became the first Burgundian estate to convert all of its 120 hectares to organic farming. The Faiveley family also played a major historical role by helping to found the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in 1934.
The vineyard
The climat "Aux Beaux Bruns" is one of the twenty-four Premiers Crus of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, located on the village’s eastern slopes. Its name refers to the characteristic brown color of its soils. The terroir consists of a blend of clay, limestone and flint, offering an ideal south-east exposure. This geological composition gives the wines a harmonious breadth, combining mineral expression with aromatic finesse. The light, well-drained limestone soils rest on Bathonian limestone formations and fine marls, encouraging the elegance and delicacy typical of Chambolle-Musigny.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by particularly cool and challenging weather conditions. Spring saw exceptional frosts that affected many vineyards in the region. The growing season continued with cooler-than-average temperatures, making 2021 the first truly cool vintage since 2014 or 2008. These weather conditions produced wines with a lighter color, moderate alcohol levels and an aromatic profile favoring finesse, minerality and elegance over power and fruit concentration.
Winemaking and aging
The Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru "Aux Beaux Bruns" 2021 from Domaine Faiveley is vinified according to traditional Burgundian methods, with particular attention paid to expressing the terroir. Aging takes place in oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving the aromatic purity and fine tannic structure characteristic of the appellation.
