Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Chenevery" 2022 from Domaine Virgile Lignier-Michelot
Tasting
Colour
Vibrant and luminous, the wine reveals a beautiful ruby hue highlighted by youthful glints at the rim.
Nose
The bouquet opens with intense aromas of red and black fruit, recalling wild cherry, blackcurrant and raspberry coulis. It gains complexity with delicate floral notes of violet and rose, complemented by hints of undergrowth, spice and subtle oak evoking vanilla, cocoa and toast.
Palate
Elegant and precise, the attack reveals a silky texture supported by a fine structure. The palate unfolds flavours of juicy red fruit, plum skin and dried herbs, accompanied by a touch of tea. The fine, chalky tannins blend harmoniously with a fresh, well-integrated acidity, leading to a long, persistent and deeply mineral finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs beautifully with delicate red meats, full-flavoured poultry or feathered game. It also enhances dishes in brown sauce, recipes featuring mushrooms and truffles, as well as soft cheeses such as Brie or semi-hard uncooked pressed cheeses like Saint-Nectaire.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Chenevery" 2022, it is best served at a temperature of around 15 to 16°C. With its fine structure, this wine offers remarkable ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2037.
The refinement and richness of a Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru
The estate
Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, Domaine Virgile Lignier-Michelot has established itself as an essential reference. Although the family has been growing vines since the early 20th century, the estate was founded as an independent bottling operation in 1992. Now run by Virgile and Laure Lignier, the property covers around ten hectares. Renowned for its environmentally respectful approach and its pursuit of purity, it produces wines that combine finesse, elegance and a faithful expression of the region's finest terroirs.
The vineyard
The plot from which this wine is made is located in Morey-Saint-Denis, mid-slope, just below the famous Les Faconnières climat. This exceptional terroir is distinguished by shallow soils, particularly rich in hard limestone, marl and scree. The vines, around forty-five years old, draw a singular minerality from them. The estate favours uncertified organic viticulture, without chemical herbicides, and pays particular attention to lunar cycles in order to preserve the natural balance of the vines and the biodiversity of the soils.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was marked by generally warmer weather conditions. However, thanks to rigorous yield management and meticulous work in the vineyard, the growing cycle unfolded optimally. The grapes thus reached perfect ripeness while retaining a lovely natural freshness, avoiding any excess linked to the summer heat.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by a rigorous double sorting, first in the vineyard and then in the winery. The Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Chenevery" 2022 is vinified by gravity with very gentle extractions and a significant proportion of whole bunches. The wine is then aged for twelve months in oak barrels, including a measured proportion of new wood from renowned cooperages, before completing its maturation with four months in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled with minimal intervention.
