Vinum

No Camensac this year due to frost, but instead this excellent second wine from the Grand Vin vines that survived the frost, making it a genuine price-and-pleasure bargain: full-bodied, smooth, juicy, with a compact finish that shows hardly any hardness.

James Suckling

A fresh red with plum and currant character, as well as crushed stones, following through to a medium body, firm tannins and a crisp finish. Second wine of Château Camensac. Better after 2020.

Description

The delicacy of a full and tasty Haut-Médoc

Challenging vintage for the region of Bordeaux, the year 2017 will have rewarded the work and attention given by the Château de Camensac.

Located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region in the appellation Haut-Médoc, Château de Camensac benefits from an exceptional terroir made up of gravel dating from the Günz Ice Age and Villafranchian gravel.

The episode of frost that hit the Bordeaux vineyards at the end of April did not spare Château de Camensac. Nevertheless, the important work carried out in the vineyard allowed us to harvest grapes with perfectly ripe berries.

Resulting from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) and Merlot (50%), the property's second wine, La Closerie de Camensac 2017 displays the typicality of a great red wine from the Haut-Medoc.

On tasting, La Closerie de Camensac 2017 has a dark ruby colour. The nose opens with light woody and vanilla notes that gradually give way to gourmet chocolate notes balanced by a beautiful freshness. The frank attack on the palate immediately reveals the elegance and finesse of the tannin structure. The tight structure unfolds in a full mouth to stretch into the length of a finish underlining the flavour of chocolate notes.

A very fine Haut-Médoc wine to be tasted, let it air out about an hour before tasting, which will evolve very well in the cellar between now and 2022-2027.
