Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of the Bunnahabhain 33 Years Old American Hogshead Connoisseurs Choice Upper Gordon & MacPhail 1991
Tasting
Appearance
A hue ranging from deep gold to amber.
Nose
The bouquet opens with expressive, indulgent aromas of ripe tropical fruits and apricot jam, delicately underscored by citrus notes.
Palate
The texture proves remarkably soft and creamy. The palate unfolds silky flavours of ripe pear and white peach, refreshed by touches of lime and menthol. The finish is long, resolutely fruity, and enhanced by a subtle hint of pepper.
Pairings and tasting moments
This exceptional spirit is best enjoyed neat, served in a tulip or copita glass at a moderate temperature. To complement its sweet and fruity profile, opt for aged hard cheeses, lightly sweetened desserts featuring stone fruits (such as an apricot tart), or delicate white or milk chocolate treats with subtle vanilla notes.
Mixology
Given the immense rarity and venerable age of this expression, we recommend enjoying it neat, without embellishment, or with the addition of just a few drops of water to unlock its full aromatic complexity.
Other characteristics
This single malt stands out for its unpeated profile, true to the distillery's historic style. It is bottled at its natural strength of 47.5% vol. and has undergone no chill filtration, in order to preserve the full integrity of its texture and aromatic compounds.
A Scottish Single Malt of Rare Elegance: the Fruity Expression of Bunnahabhain
The Bunnahabhain distillery: the maritime soul of Islay
Founded in 1881 on the north-east coast of the Isle of Islay, Bunnahabhain holds a singular place in the landscape of Scotch whisky. Unlike its neighbours renowned for their intensely smoky profiles, the distillery has historically distinguished itself through the production of unpeated malts, marked by great fruity softness and a resolutely maritime imprint. Equipped with four stills and employing long fermentations, Bunnahabhain crafts a distillate ideally suited to very long ageing. Today, the estate is owned by CVH Spirits (Capevin Holdings), with a significant minority stake held by the Campari group. Under the technical leadership of Distillery Manager Andrew Brown and Master Blender Julieann Fernandez, Bunnahabhain continues to win over connoisseurs with its authenticity and the richness of its cask selections.
The meticulous crafting of an exceptional vintage
The Bunnahabhain 33 Years Old American Hogshead Connoisseurs Choice Upper Gordon & MacPhail 1991 is a Single Malt of absolute rarity, born of a rigorous selection by the renowned independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail. Distilled in 1991, this Scotch whisky benefited from extended maturation of more than three decades in a single American oak Hogshead cask (approximately 250 litres). This choice of vessel allowed for a slow and gradual extraction of aromas, fostering the emergence of stone fruit notes and gentle spices while respecting the delicacy of the original distillate.
Belonging to the prestigious Connoisseurs Choice Upper range, this limited edition showcases the historic expertise of Gordon & MacPhail in the art of long ageing. Presented in a sumptuous luxury gift box, this spirit is intended for collectors and discerning enthusiasts in search of an extraordinary tasting experience, bearing witness to the perfect harmony between time, wood and the distillery's unique character.
