Description
Tasting Characteristics and Advice for the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Teurons" 2016 by Vincent Girardin
Tasting
Color
The wine displays a bright ruby hue.
Nose
Initially discreet, the nose gradually opens with aeration, revealing aromas of black fruits and cherry. Notes of leather, sweet spices and hints of dried fruits such as figs complete the bouquet.
Palate
The attack is fresh and fruity, giving the impression of biting into a cherry. The creamy palate is lifted by fine, perfectly integrated tannins. The finish stands out for its remarkable length, supported by a delicate, sophisticated bitterness.
Food and wine pairings
This Beaune pairs harmoniously with herb-roasted poultry or duck served with red berries. It also complements slow-simmered red meats in sauce with elegance. For cheeses, opt for aged varieties such as young Époisses, Reblochon, aged Comté or Brie de Meaux. Regional Burgundian dishes such as œufs en meurette also make a natural match.
Serving and cellaring
Serve this Beaune 2016 at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. Decanting for 20 minutes can help the wine open up aromatically. This vintage offers an aging potential of 5 to 8 years for optimal enjoyment, with the ability to evolve beyond 2026.
An elegant, pure Beaune, true to the expression of the Burgundian terroir
The estate
Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin from two hectares, the House has grown to encompass 32 hectares of vineyards in Côte de Beaune today. Since 2012, the estate has been owned by the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, chaired by Jean-Pierre Nié. Based in Meursault, the House is technically overseen by Eric Germain, who perpetuates a style defined by purity and the faithful expression of terroirs. In 2023, Vincent Girardin received the "Négociant of the Year" award from La Revue du Vin de France, recognizing the remarkable quality of its wines.
The vineyard
"Les Teurons" 2016 is a Beaune 1er Cru, produced from vineyards farmed according to biodynamic principles since 2008. The estate-owned parcels benefit from an approach that respects the terroir. For grapes purchased from partner winegrowers, the House requires no herbicides or insecticides, the use of natural composts, and a 100% manual harvest with meticulous sorting.
The vintage
The 2016 vintage was a particularly challenging year for Burgundy. After a mild winter and an exceptionally cold month of April, a devastating frost struck on April 26, causing catastrophic losses. May brought frequent rain, cool temperatures and downy mildew. However, July and August proved exceptionally hot and dry, allowing the surviving grapes to ripen fully. September brought rain at the optimal time, perfecting ripeness. Despite the reduced volumes, the grapes achieved remarkable concentration and intensity, producing wines characterized by freshness, structure and balance.
Vinification and aging
The vinification of this Beaune 1er Cru "Les Teurons" 2016 favors the pure expression of the terroir. Eric Germain drastically reduced the use of new barrels to promote the wine’s authenticity. Aging is carried out over an extended period, allowing for full integration of the structural elements. The House uses indigenous yeasts and naturally present malolactic bacteria, avoiding invasive oenological interventions. Bottling is carried out according to the lunar calendar, reflecting respect for natural cycles.
