The estate
Founded in 1959 by William Fèvre, Domaine William Fèvre is now regarded as one of Chablis’ essential benchmark estates. Rooted in Burgundy, the estate was acquired in 1998 by Joseph Henriot and then in 2024 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite. It spans around 78 hectares, including 15 hectares of Grands Crus. Under the direction of the talented oenologist Didier Séguier, named White Winemaker of the Year in 2018, the estate has moved away from new oak in favor of the pure expression of its terroirs. The domaine manages 130 different plots, each vinified separately to respect the singularity of every Climat.
The vineyard
Grand Cru Bougros is among the seven Climats classified as Grand Cru within the Chablis appellation. This exceptional terroir benefits from a privileged exposure and Kimmeridgian soils typical of the region, composed of marl and fossil-bearing limestone. These unique geological conditions give the wines their hallmark minerality and excellent aging potential.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage was marked by particularly warm, sunny weather conditions. This generous, sun-filled year produced grapes of outstanding ripeness while preserving natural freshness thanks to cool nights typical of the Chablis climate. Harvest took place under optimal conditions, giving rise to concentrated, well-balanced wines.
Vinification and aging
The Chablis Grand cru "Bougros" Domaine William Fèvre 2018 is vinified according to the estate’s traditional methods. Aging takes place 70 to 80% in medium-aged French oak barrels (around five years old), with no new oak used. This approach preserves the terroir’s mineral expression while adding complexity and structure to the wine. Aging on fine lees with regular bâtonnage enriches the texture and develops the aromas.
