Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022 Bruno Colin

Tasting notes

Colour
The colour reveals a vibrant pale yellow hue, enhanced by delicate green highlights typical of its youth.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great complexity, blending well-ripened stone fruit aromas such as white peach and pear with refreshing citrus notes. Subtle floral touches of honeysuckle intertwine with a pronounced minerality evoking gunflint, all underscored by light nuances of almond and vanilla from the ageing process.

Palate
On the palate, this white wine from France offers a full and generous texture, perfectly balanced by vibrant acidic tension. The mid-palate expresses a precise mineral framework, leading to an exceptionally long finish, lingering on delicious notes of brioche, baked apple and citrus.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs majestically with noble shellfish such as grilled lobster or langoustines, as well as with meaty fish in creamy sauces. It also enhances foie gras, dishes featuring white truffle, poultry in cream sauce, or characterful cheeses such as Époisses or Roquefort.

Service and storage

The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022 reveals its full potential when served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, with the bottle opened around thirty minutes before tasting, without the need for decanting. Built to age, it can be cellared for enjoyment until around 2040.

Other characteristics

This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%.

The power and mineral precision of a great white Burgundy

The estate

Founded in 2003 by Bruno Colin, who represents the fourth generation of winemakers in his family, the eponymous estate is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy. After working alongside his father, Bruno Colin now runs this 8.75-hectare estate spread across five prestigious communes. The winemaker cultivates his vines according to the principles of sustainable farming, with mechanical soil management. His minimal-intervention approach aims to let each terroir express its uniqueness, giving rise to wines of great purity and remarkable precision.

The vineyard

The Corton-Charlemagne terroir extends over the steep slopes of the Montagne de Corton, at an altitude ranging between 280 and 330 metres. Benefiting from a rare southwest exposure that favours optimal ripening, the vines flourish on complex soils composed of clay-rich marls and limestone strata. This unique geology gives the wine its signature minerality and great ageing potential.

The vintage

The year 2022 began with a mild, dry winter, followed by an early and clement spring that protected the vines from frost episodes. Summer proved hot and dry, but timely rainfall at the end of June and in mid-August helped avoid water stress. These ideal weather conditions led to an early harvest at the end of August, yielding grapes of exceptional ripeness while retaining lovely freshness.

Winemaking and ageing

To craft this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2022, the grapes undergo gentle pneumatic pressing followed by settling. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place entirely in 350-litre French oak barrels, approximately 15% of which are new. The wine is then aged on fine lees for nearly twelve months, before being blended and refined in stainless steel tanks for an additional three to six months prior to bottling.
