Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Coffret "Cuvée Royale" & 2 flûtes by Joseph Perrier
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a bright, pale yellow-gold hue with delicate coppery highlights. Its effervescence stands out for its exceptionally fine bubbles, which form a persistent bead.
Nose
The bouquet is beautifully complex and opens with aromas of white fruits such as apple, pear and vineyard peach. With aeration, subtle notes of white flowers such as hawthorn and acacia mingle with light exotic hints of pineapple.
Palate
The attack is both lively and supple, leading to a harmonious palate that combines freshness and structure. Fruity and floral flavours carry through to a tangy finish of remarkable length.
Food and wine pairings
Ideal as an aperitif, this wine pairs beautifully with salmon gravlax or fine shavings of Parmesan. It is also a fine match for seafood, smoked fish and white meats served with a light mushroom sauce.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate the non-vintage Coffret "Cuvée Royale" & 2 flûtes, serve it at a temperature of 8–10°C. This wine can be enjoyed now but will keep in the cellar until around 2029.
Other characteristics
This sparkling wine is a brut, with a moderate dosage of 7 g/L. It is also certified vegan, guaranteeing that no animal-derived products are used in its production.
The elegance and freshness of an iconic Champagne from Châlons-en-Champagne
The estate
Founded in 1825, the Joseph Perrier house is a historic institution based in Châlons-en-Champagne. Passed down through six generations, it is now run by Benjamin Fourmon, who upholds the family's expertise while bringing a modern, sustainable vision. This Champagne house stands out for its impressive ground-level Gallo-Roman cellars, unique in the region, dug deep into a chalk hillside. A longstanding supplier to the British Royal Family, the house combines an exceptional heritage with strong environmental commitments.
The vineyard
The estate tends a vineyard of around 23 to 24 hectares, ideally spread across hillsides in the heart of Champagne. Farmed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture and certified High Environmental Value as well as Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne, the vines thrive in a preserved ecosystem. Biodiversity is encouraged through hedges, rose bushes and beehives, ensuring grapes of outstanding quality.
The blend
This non-vintage cuvée is the result of a meticulous blend of wines from more than twenty prestigious crus, including Cumières, Damery, Hautvillers and Verneuil. To ensure stylistic consistency from one year to the next, around 20% reserve wines complete the blend.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before gentle pressing. The second fermentation takes place in bottle according to the traditional method. The wine in the non-vintage Coffret "Cuvée Royale" & 2 flûtes then undergoes extended ageing of 36 months on the lees in the house's historic cellars, refining its texture and developing its aromatic complexity.
Grape varieties
This blend is made up of around 35% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 30% Meunier.
