The Pure Expression of Chardonnay by Champagne Pierre Moncuit
The Estate
Founded in 1889 in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, the family-run Pierre Moncuit estate spans 19 hectares. Today, this independent estate is run by the mother-daughter duo, Nicole and Valérie Moncuit. Passionate advocates for their terroir, they carry on an artisanal savoir-faire, growing exclusively Chardonnay to craft wines of great purity. As grower-producer, the family oversees every stage of production to offer authentic cuvées under their own label, helping to enhance the reputation of the Champagne region.
The Vineyard
Located mainly on the prestigious Grand Cru terroir of Mesnil-sur-Oger in Champagne, the vineyard benefits from an ideal east-facing exposure. The vines, around fifty years old, thrive on soils where a thin layer of topsoil covers Campanian chalk, lending a unique tension to the grapes. The plots are managed according to the principles of traditional, sustainable viticulture, and the estate holds the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification.
The Blend
Although this is a non-vintage cuvée, this wine is exceptionally made from a single harvest year, 2021, without any addition of reserve wines.
Winemaking and Aging
The hand-harvested grapes undergo rigorous selection before being pressed. The Delos Grand Cru Brut Non-Vintage is vinified plot by plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. To preserve minerality while softening the wine, malolactic fermentation is carried out. The wine then benefits from extended aging on the lees in the estate's cellars.
