Ruinart : Second Skin Brut Rosé

Based on the 2021 vintage and including 30% reserve wines, the most recent release of Ruinart’s NV Brut Rosé was disgorged in March 2024 with a dosage of eight grams per liter. It reveals aromas of pomegranate, dark cherry, redcurrant and blood orange, mingling with cranberry, brioche and a touch of rooibos. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and elegantly muscular, vinous and layered, with lively acidity and a perfumed, saline-tinged finish. Harmoniously balanced, it is among the most compelling in its category.

A little sharp, with earth and clove notes augmenting the cherry flavor. Lacks the length of the best rosés. Drink now.

The nose offers red berries, orange peel and figs, complemented by golden apple and white bread. On the crisp palate there’s bright fruit, good acidity and balance, with cranberry and grapefruit notes.

An enticing, properly dry rosé with a slew of red-berry aromas, including wild strawberries. Behind this lies the structure of a serious chardonnay from the chalky soils of this region, and it’s the chalky texture that anchors the long finish. Drink now.

Pale salmon-orange. Aromas of orange peel, strawberry, toast and Juicyfruit gum. Fruity and easygoing, with good life on the palate. Finishes with a lingering, slightly jammy raspberry flavor. This is probably best served with food, as it might cloy on its own.

Medium salmon pink, golden reflections, fine mousse. A hint of ripe heart cherry, delicate hints of red forest berry confit, candied orange zest. Medium complexity, fine fruit sweetness, elegant, harmonious, shows good freshness, mineral on the finish, lingers well, a multi-faceted companion at the table.

The Ruinart house style leans towards producing elegant lightweight Champagnes and even it's rose follows suit. Strawberry and citrus aromas give way to berry, toast and mushroom flavors. It's dry and light--a pink bubbly perfect as a Valentine's Day aperitif.
