Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Mercurey 1er cru "Clos des Ruelles" Monopole 2023 Château de Chamirey

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep, brilliant purple hue, enhanced by delicate ruby glints in the light.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with generous notes of red and black fruits, evoking cherry, morello cherry and raspberry. Aeration reveals a fine floral and spicy complexity, marked by touches of liquorice and pepper.

Palate
The attack is crisp and precise. The palate offers unctuous, perfectly integrated tannins, revealing a fine balance between roundness and freshness. The long, complex finish stands out with saline mineral nuances, herbaceous notes, and subtle hints of vanilla and spice.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with a traditional beef bourguignon or roast lamb with aromatic herbs. It will also pair beautifully with mushroom-based dishes, a risotto, medium-matured cheeses, or a chocolate dessert.

Service and Storage

The Mercurey 1er cru "Clos des Ruelles" Monopole 2023 can be enjoyed now, but its potential allows it to age in the cellar until around 2043. For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 13 and 14°C.

The Authentic Expression of a Great Mercurey Terroir

The Estate

The modern history of Château de Chamirey truly began with its commercial founding in 1934, the year the estate's first bottle was produced. Located in Burgundy, at the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, this estate spans 37 hectares. Today, the fifth generation, represented by Amaury and Aurore Devillard, runs the estate with passion. Renowned for its sustainable approach and the enhancement of its terroirs, the family continues a legacy of excellence while preserving the independence of its cellars.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from "Clos des Ruelles", a 2.53-hectare vineyard held in monopole by the estate within the Mercurey appellation. Facing south to south-southeast, the vines benefit from a distinctive clay-limestone terroir, rich in oxidized iron that gives the soil its characteristic brick-red hue. Planted at high density, this cru brings together historic vines dating back to 1954 alongside younger vines from the 1980s, cultivated using sustainable methods with exclusively hand-harvested grapes.

The Vintage

The year 2023 began with some threat of spring frost in April. However, the growing cycle benefited from timely rainfall in June and August, promoting optimal vine development and excellent berry ripening ahead of an early harvest.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes destined for the Mercurey 1er cru "Clos des Ruelles" Monopole 2023 undergo careful sorting before appropriate destemming. A cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Juices from the old and young vines are vinified separately. Aging takes place in French oak barrels (15 to 25% new wood) sourced from the forests of Burgundy, Allier and Vosges, followed by refinement in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Grape Variety

Pinot Noir (100%).
