Description
A Mercurey wine crafted from five premiers crus blended by Château de Chamirey
The estate
Château de Chamirey is a wine estate in the Côte Chalonnaise, in Burgundy, founded in 1932 by the Marquis Roger de Jouennes, with its first bottling under this name dating back to 1934. Now run by Amaury Devillard and Aurore Monot-Devillard, heirs of the Devillard family, the estate extends over 37 hectares in Mercurey, 15 of which are classified as premiers crus, including the monopole Les Ruelles. This high proportion of top-tier climats positions Chamirey as a benchmark of the appellation.
The vineyard
The "Les Cinq" cuvée originates from five red premier cru climats in Mercurey: Les Ruelles, a monopole, Clos du Roi, Champs Martin, En Sazenay and Clos L'Évêque. These parcels lie on clay-limestone soils with a predominance of clay, typical of the Mercurey hillsides, which give the Pinot Noir a pronounced tannic structure and a beautiful depth of colour. The estate harvests by hand, with rigorous sorting of the grapes before they go into tank.
Winemaking and ageing
For the production of the Mercurey 1er Cru "Les Cinq" 2025, Château de Chamirey follows the philosophy that has defined this cuvée since its creation: a carefully sorted hand harvest, followed by a cold pre-fermentation maceration designed to extract colour and phenolic compounds. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by regular pigeages, then the free-run and press juices are separated before being aged individually in French oak barrels, some of them new. As this vintage is still en primeur, the exact proportions and precise duration of this ageing have not yet been disclosed by the estate.
Grape variety
This Mercurey 1er Cru "Les Cinq" 2025 from Château de Chamirey is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
