Decanter

Fruity and fresh but also perfumed, heady and layered. The flavours are super intense with blackcurrants, violets, liquorice, rose petals, plums and vanilla but the texture is smooth and sleek with plenty of juicy appeal. Certainly less oak impacted at this point than other En Primeur samples. Elegant with purity on offer. A strong backbone but lovely styling.

The wine's trademark scents of violets come through loud and clear in the perfume, along with cherries, cocoa, licorice, espresso, truffles, and plums. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, hedonistic, lush, and fresh. The creamy tannins in the fruit-packed finish deliver a warm, sensuous, polished finish. The wine was produced from 100% Merlot. Drink from 2030-2055. 95-97 Pts

This estate has a clear signature, and they are extremely consistent in sticking to it. Rich texture, peony, rose petals, iris flowers, this is attractive, skilfully put together, juicy finish, plenty of character, cocoa bean, incense, holds grip and interest, skilfully assembled. When all the elements in place are enough to create greatness—without raising its voice, simply whispering a thousand and one aromas—you are inevitably in the presence of a truly great wine. The only challenge is the one the bouquet sets for the palate. The palate is not easily impressed; it takes it on with disconcerting serenity, reminding us that it is the overall harmony that matters—and that is precisely where La Violette 2025 shines brilliantly. I have never tasted a La Violette with so much structure, power, precision, poise, coherence, depth, and balance. The tannins, fine-grained, are subtly silky and create an unstoppable foundation alongside the acidic structure. The result is an exceptional wine with all the assets needed to earn a place in the estate’s Hall of Fame!

Dark, intense, vibrant color. A highly aromatic nose, with ripe fruit notes joined by a floral nuance never before perceived in this wine at this age. Even purer and more refined when the glass is swirled. Meticulously fleshy on entry, broad and silky through the mid-palate and more fragrant than ever, the wine melts across the palate, gaining power and flavor. It finishes with a long, intricate, complex finish. Remarkable for its suavity and poise. 100% Merlot. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3.60. Yield: 9 hl/ha.

Description

A great Pomerol wine combining structure and refinement

The estate

Founded in the mid-1950s, Château La Violette is a true gem of the Bordeaux region. Acquired in 2006 by Catherine Péré-Vergé, the estate underwent a spectacular transformation to become a highly sought-after signature. Today, her son Henri Parent leads the property, continuing this pursuit of excellence. With its tiny 1.68-hectare vineyard, of which 1.26 are in production, this confidential cru stands out for its exceptionally rare wines.

The vineyard

Ideally situated on the heights of the famous Pomerol plateau, the vineyard enjoys a privileged terroir. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, thrive on soils composed of fine gravel. Since the 2023 vintage, the bottom of the Château La Violette bottle has been tinted violet, a unique feature among the great wines of Bordeaux.

Vinification and ageing

After manual plot-by-plot harvesting, the berries are rigorously sorted and then hand-destemmed. A long cold pre-fermentation maceration of approximately fifteen to twenty days is carried out. Malolactic fermentation and ageing, lasting around fourteen months, take place entirely in new French oak barrels. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Grape variety

Château La Violette 2025 is a 100% Merlot.
