Decanter

Inky blue fruit tones with cola and liquorice. Crisp and grippy with a salty edge to the tannins that takes hold. Very faithful to the terror, not at all ‘hot’, this is cool and fresh with a minerality that comes across so clearly. It’s lightly presented in terms of texture but still you get depth of fruit and a long finish. But still ripe. Chalky on the finish. Will be nice after ageing.

Another in a string of top vintages for Potensac, the core of the wine is marked by its display of black currants, flowers, tobacco, and underbrush. Energetic, crisp, and dark, the wine leaves you with a chewy, savory-edged finish. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2030-2050. 92-94 Pts

Vibrant, vivid, deep brambled autumnal fruits, good lift and character, sappy if slightly raw tannins that will soften over ageing, all the building blocks are there. 28hl/ha. 20% new oak. 3.57 pH. 12.1% press wine. Winemaker and cellar master Sébastien Herfray, overall technical director across the Las Cases properties of Michael Georges. Tasted twice.

Freshness and energy are the first words that come to mind when tasting Potensac 2025. The Merlot and Cabernets are a reminder of how well they work together, showing an optimal symbiosis that enhances both the charming side and the lively, crisp edge. Dense and vibrant on the attack, the wine stands out for its drive and character. Its tannins, fleshy and muscular, are perfectly matched by the incisive, structuring nature of the acidity. The result is a harmonious, precise, mouthwatering wine. What an impressive ability to combine energy, freshness and elegance so seamlessly!

Deep, intense color. Very aromatic nose with ripe fruit. Precise on the attack, with a fine, silky texture gliding across the palate, the wine melts in the mouth and stretches out into a long, flavorful finish—admittedly a touch oaky for now; however, overall I’ve never found it this delicious. I’m delighted to see Potensac back at this level. Blend: 41% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13.5% - pH: 3.57 - IPT: 75. Yield: 28 hl/ha.

Description

Tasting Notes and Recommendations for Château Potensac 2025

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a deep, dark colour.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is intense, carried by ripe black fruits such as blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry, accompanied by a hint of redcurrant. Delicate floral notes intertwine with more complex nuances of tobacco, cedar, graphite and undergrowth.

Palate
The palate offers a tight texture and beautiful concentration, balanced by vibrant freshness and mineral tension. The tannins, at once dense, firm and finely polished, bring a spicy touch. The finish is deep, savoury and slightly chewy, revealing remarkable energy.

Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with classic meats such as beef, veal, lamb or pork. It will also elevate duck, game or roast chicken. Favour grilled, braised or roasted preparations, rich in flavour but without an excess of spices.

Serving and cellaring
Château Potensac 2025 requires one to three hours of decanting before being enjoyed. Built to age, this vintage will reach its peak after a few years in the bottle and will ideally be drunk until around 2050.

A structured and elegant Médoc wine

The estate
Founded in the mid-19th century by the Liquard family, Château Potensac is a historic figure of the Bordeaux region. Located in the northern Médoc, this estate of around 60 hectares has the rare distinction of always having been passed down through the women of the family. Today, Jean-Hubert Delon is at the head of the property, perpetuating this precious family heritage.

The vineyard
Planted to the west of the village of Ordonnac, on the eponymous plateau, this Médoc terroir lies on limestone mounds covered with clay and gravel. The vineyard, whose vines have an average age of 60 years, is even home to certain plots that are over eighty years old. The whole estate is cultivated using ecological and sustainable methods, fostering the pure expression of this gravelly soil.

Winemaking and aging
The harvest took place under optimal conditions between 12 and 22 September. Alcohol: 13.5% vol.

Grape varieties
41% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc
