Decanter

Bright and expressive nose, full of perfumed roses, smells gorgeous. Round and filling, chewy tannins give a really lively and massy expression but with cool liquorice, wet stone and slate aspects around the side. It’s calm, certainly not as acidic and lively as some, but I love the confidence and completeness of this wine. Yummy and just really moreish. Excellent structure and extraction without being too much.

While the bouquet of flowers is what you initially notice in the perfume, you also find cocoa, black cherries, licorice, and plums. Medium-bodied, elegant, fresh, sweet, and fruity, the finish continues along the same vein with its plummy, chocolate-driven character. Drink from 2029-2050. 82-94 Pts

Inky colour, incense, graphite and tar, this does have deeply brambled fruits, autumnal hedgerow character, but struggles right now to break free of the oak. One to retaste in bottle. Harvest September 10 to 22. 60% new oak. Yield 40 hl/ha,

Hints of violet, black berries and mint create an inviting array of nuances! Dense on the attack, the wine unfolds seamlessly in one straight line. Driven by compact, fine-grained tannins, it stands out for the subtlety of its power and freshness. A sapid, well-structured wine to enjoy in its youth, yet with a respectable ageing potential.

Deep colour with purple and black highlights. Very aromatic nose, with ripe, spicy fruit. Delicate on entry, fleshy on the mid-palate with a lovely texture; the wine glides across the palate, then builds into a long, flavoursome finish. It shows a fine grain and lovely aromas. Less oak presence than sometimes. Blend: 80% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol: 14%. Yield: 40 hl/ha. Production: 18,000 bottles.

Expressive on the nose with notes of cherry, herbs, blackcurrant and menthol; a straight, focused palate with ripe yet crunchy fruit, wrapped in silky tannins; the finish is dark-fruited, leaving a mouthfeel that feels like licking a salt lick. A very mineral Clos des Jacobins.

Description

The refinement and complexity of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine

The estate

Located in the heart of Saint-Émilion, Clos des Jacobins embodies the spiritual and winegrowing heritage of the Bordeaux region. Its name echoes the history of the Benedictine monks who once offered shelter and comfort to pilgrims on the Way of St. James. Since 2004, this historic site has been in the hands of Thibaut and Magali Decoster, who cultivate a demanding and contemporary vision of wine.

The vineyard

Clos des Jacobins enjoys a privileged location at the foot of the Saint-Émilion slope, with a full southern exposure that promotes optimal ripening of the grapes. The 8.5 hectares of vines, over 30 years old, are planted on soils of limestone bedrock, clay and limestone scree, bringing minerality and freshness to the wines.

Winemaking and aging

Manual harvest and rigorous sorting. Maceration with regular punching down and rack-and-return for optimal extraction. After a 27-day vatting in wooden vats (60hl) and concrete, malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels and wooden vats. Aging is carried out in barrels (60% new oak), in large casks as well as in Wine Globes. Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.

Blend

This Clos des Jacobins 2025 is the result of a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).
