Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Pommard 1er cru "Les Chanlins" 2024, Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Colour
This red wine from France reveals a deep ruby hue verging on garnet, with beautiful brightness and great clarity.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense aromas of red and black fruits, such as black cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry. It is enriched with savoury herbal notes and an earthy minerality characteristic of its terroir.

Palate
The texture is silky and refined, supported by structured yet polished tannins. The palate is dominated by flavours of blackberry, black cherry, sweet spices from the oak and a mineral touch of graphite, extending into a long, energetic finish.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with feathered game such as duck or goose, as well as red meats such as beef fillet with a morel sauce. It also enhances dishes based on mushrooms, truffles or lentils, and pairs perfectly with mature, characterful cheeses such as Comté or Époisses.

Service and storage

Approachable in its youth after light decanting, this Pommard 1er cru "Les Chanlins" 2024 will reveal its full complexity after a few years in the cellar and can be kept until around 2044.

Other characteristics

Bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its purity, this wine may develop a slight natural sediment over time.

The elegance and depth of a great Burgundy wine by Domaine A.F. Gros

The estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is a key reference in Burgundy. Located in Pommard, the estate spans approximately fifteen hectares across prestigious terroirs. Today, Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent remain the owners, while management and winemaking are handled by their children, Caroline and Mathias Parent. The estate stands out for its commitment to sustainable viticulture, combining respect for Burgundian traditions with technical innovations, while featuring unique artistic labels paying tribute to the women of the family.

The vineyard

The Les Chanlins Climat is a Premier Cru terroir ideally located in the commune of Pommard, at an altitude of around 300 metres with a south-east exposure. The plot farmed by the estate covers 0.28 hectares and rests on clay-limestone soils. The vines, eighty years old and planted in the 1940s, are cultivated according to sustainable principles and naturally produce very low yields, ensuring exceptional concentration in the berries.

The vintage

The year 2024 proved particularly challenging. After a mild winter and early budbreak, spring was marked by cool temperatures and heavy rainfall in May and June, leading to coulure and shatter (millerandage). Despite these difficult conditions and strong fungal disease pressure, the return of sunny, warm weather in July and August allowed the surviving grapes to reach good ripeness. Harvest, which began in mid-September under milder skies, yielded a very small but high-quality crop.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo rigorous sorting. Destemming is carried out using state-of-the-art equipment that preserves the integrity of the berries. Fermentation of this Pommard 1er cru "Les Chanlins" 2024 follows traditional methods, with a variable proportion of whole clusters and precise temperature control for gentle extraction. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, combining new and older wood, for a period of twelve to eighteen months.
