Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Richebourg Grand Cru "Domaine" 2024 Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals an elegant red hue.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals fine complexity, blending red and black fruit aromas such as cherry, raspberry, and blackberry. Subtle floral notes of violet and dried flowers intertwine with mineral touches, pepper, and fine leather.

Palate
On the palate, this wine displays an imposing structure while retaining remarkable elegance. The tannins are silky and refined, supporting a body of impressive breadth. The finish, with exceptional mineral purity, stands out for its persistence and brightness.

Food and Wine Pairing

This grand cru pairs wonderfully with flavourful dishes such as lièvre à la royale, roast venison served with a black fruit sauce, or a fine aged cut of beef. It also enhances noble poultry such as pheasant or truffled capon, as well as matured cheeses such as Époisses or Comté.

Service and Storage

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this wine between 16 and 18°C, taking care to decant it about an hour before serving. Built for a very long evolution, this Richebourg Grand Cru "Domaine" 2024 can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2049.

The Elegance and Mineral Purity of a Great Burgundy Cru by Domaine A.F. Gros

The Estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros, Domaine A.F. Gros is an unmissable figure in Burgundy, France. Heir to a winegrowing dynasty established in Vosne-Romanée since 1830, the founder has developed a vineyard that now spans 6.5 hectares. The estate is currently run by her children, Caroline and Mathias Parent, who continue a philosophy centred on respect for the terroir and sustainable viticulture. The estate stands out for wines that combine tradition with contemporary precision, offering pure and authentic expressions.

The Vineyard

The Richebourg plot cultivated by the estate covers 0.6 hectares and lies in the upper part of this illustrious appellation. Facing east-northeast, at an altitude ranging from 260 to 280 metres, the vines thrive on a complex terroir. The soils consist of limestone and clay, resting on a substrate of fine shale and stony limestone. The vineyard is managed using sustainable practices, with exclusively hand-picked harvests allowing for a rigorous selection of grape clusters.

The Vintage

The year 2024 was particularly challenging for the vineyard. The growing cycle was severely disrupted by harsh spring frost episodes that heavily affected flowering and fruit set. These difficult weather conditions led to a drastic drop in yield, reducing the harvest by around 70%. Despite these weather-related challenges, the surviving grapes underwent an extremely meticulous sorting process.

Winemaking and Aging

The making of the Richebourg Grand Cru "Domaine" 2024 relies on a minimal-intervention approach. After a 4- to 5-day cold maceration, fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts, incorporating a significant proportion of whole clusters. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, with around one-third new oak, in order to preserve an authentic expression of the terroir.
