Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Vosne-Romanée Village "Maizières" 2024 Domaine A.F. Gros

Tasting

Colour
The colour ranges from pure ruby to a black tulip hue, revealing a beautiful intensity that can sometimes deepen towards garnet or crimson glints.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicious notes of wild strawberry, enhanced by a peppery touch that brings lovely complexity. Subtle nuances of cherry then come to enrich this olfactory framework.

Palate
The palate is distinguished by a tannic structure of great finesse and perfect integration. The influence of the clay-limestone soils translates into a mineral tension and a refined texture, offering a red wine that is elegant, balanced and beautifully restrained.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, slow-cooked confit lamb or feathered game such as duck or pheasant. It will also enhance grilled beef, wild mushroom dishes or umami-rich risottos.

Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve the Vosne-Romanée Village "Maizières" 2024 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. With its fine structure, this wine will evolve favourably in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2031.

The elegance and precision of a great Vosne-Romanée wine

The estate

Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros, Domaine A.F. Gros is an essential reference in Burgundy. Based in Pommard, the estate oversees a vineyard of approximately 14 hectares spread across the prestigious terroirs of the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Today, management is entrusted to the new generation, Caroline and Mathias Parent, who carry on the family legacy. The domaine stands out for its terroir-respectful philosophy, producing wines renowned worldwide for their finesse, elegance and depth.

The vineyard

The Maizières climat is located within the prestigious Vosne-Romanée appellation. This specific terroir benefits from particularly deep clay-limestone soils, resting on a base of Entroques limestone. The vineyard receives meticulous care, with cover cropping encouraging deep rooting of the vines, some of which come from a historic massale selection, ensuring the vitality and complexity of the grapes.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly demanding weather conditions, with exceptional rainfall in spring and strong fungal disease pressure. Flowering was disrupted by coulure, considerably reducing yields. Fortunately, the return of dry and sunny weather in August allowed the remaining berries to reach optimal phenolic ripeness before a harvest spread over the month of September.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the Vosne-Romanée Village "Maizières" 2024 reflects Mathias Parent's meticulous approach. The winemaking incorporates a measured use of whole-cluster fruit to add complexity. Aging takes place in oak, with a balanced proportion of new barrels, once-used barrels and older barrels, allowing the tannic structure to be refined without masking the brightness of the fruit.
