Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Marsannay Village "La Charme aux Prêtres" 2023 from Domaine Bruno Clair
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a pale gold hue with delicate green highlights.
Nose
The bouquet opens with citrus notes of lemon and orange peel, joined by white flowers. Subtle touches of wild sloe, fresh apricot and rock salt enrich this fragrant nose, which carries a faint smoky nuance.
Palate
The attack is lively and saline. The very well-balanced palate reveals a fine mineral tension wrapped in a creamy texture rich in extract. Lemony flavours linger through to a long, energetic and mouthwatering finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This white wine is particularly enjoyable as an aperitif or alongside warm starters. It pairs beautifully with seafood such as scallops or ceviche, as well as with poultry served in a creamy mushroom sauce. Soft cheeses or a young Comté will also highlight its lovely salinity.
Serving and Ageing
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at a temperature of 11–12°C. It has fine ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2033.
The Tension and Minerality of a White Wine from Marsannay
The Estate
Founded in 1979, Domaine Bruno Clair is located in Marsannay-la-Côte, in the heart of the Burgundy wine region. Heir to a rich family heritage dating back to the early 20th century, the estate now covers around 27 hectares. Currently run by Bruno Clair together with his sons Edouard and Arthur, the estate stands out for its rigorous agronomic approach and its respect for the soil. Massal selection, the abandonment of herbicides and the use of organic soil amendments all reflect this winemaking family's commitment to revealing the purity and uniqueness of each terroir.
The Vineyard
The "La Charme aux Prêtres" lieu-dit lies on the upper slopes of the Marsannay appellation, at an altitude of around 300 metres. Facing south-east, this plot enjoys ideal morning sunshine that preserves the freshness of the berries. The vines, around forty years old, thrive on clay-limestone soil. The subsoil consists of Comblanchien limestone, crinoidal limestone and Ostrea marl, giving the grapes a distinctly saline identity. The estate favours precision viticulture, using cover crops and Guyot-Poussard pruning to ensure the longevity of the vines.
The Vintage
2023 is proving to be a very promising year for this terroir. The weather conditions made it possible to achieve an ideal balance between good ripeness and preserved tension, yielding grapes with great energy and vibrant minerality.
Winemaking and Ageing
Vinification of the Marsannay Village "La Charme aux Prêtres" 2023 begins in stainless steel tanks, with no initial addition of sulphur. Fermentation is then completed in oak barrels or large casks, with a maximum of 20% new oak. The wine is aged on fine lees for 16 to 18 months, without lees stirring, in order to preserve all the tension and mineral expression of the limestone terroir.
