The estate

Established in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Caroline Frey includes the prestigious Premier Cru Les Paulands in Aloxe-Corton. Under the direction of Caroline Frey, the estate is committed to converting to organic and biodynamic farming.

The vineyard

The *Les Paulands* climat is located in the village of Aloxe-Corton, at the foot of the Corton hill, in the immediate vicinity of the Grands Crus. The vines, planted in 1949, are managed with a gentle, manual approach. The name "Pauland" comes from the Old French "Pol" meaning pond or swamp, testifying to the historical nature of these soils which required significant drainage work.

The vintage

The year 2019 began with a mild winter, with the exception of January, favoring early budburst. After heavy rains in December, conditions became drier from January onwards. Spring saw frosts and a cool spell in early June which delayed flowering. The summer was marked by several heatwaves. Rains in mid-August favored heterogeneous veraison, followed by rapid ripening. The health of the grapes proved excellent despite variable yields due to climatic variations.

Vinification and aging

The harvest for the Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru "Les Paulands" 2019 was carried out manually with sorting in the vineyard into small crates. Vinification took place in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Aging continued for 18 to 20 months in oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its complexity and balance.

Grape variety

This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
