Description
An Ultra Brut precisely vinified by the Corsican estate Abbatucci
The estate
Located at over 100 meters above sea level, the Domaine Comte Abbatucci is home to one of the oldest vineyards in Corsica.
With origins dating back more than a century, the estate pays tribute, through its cuvées, to illustrious figures in the family (a General of the French Revolution, a diplomat, a minister under the reign of Napoleon III) whose destiny shaped the family history.
Keen to preserve this exceptional island terroir, the estate cultivates indigenous grape varieties that give its wines a unique character.
Since 2000, the entire vineyard has been farmed biodynamically, to enhance the characteristics of a unique Corsican terroir while preserving an exceptional natural environment.
The vineyard
Produced as Vin de France, the Empire 2016 cuvée from Domaine Abbatucci comes from a 2-hectare vineyard. Planted between 1960 and 1962, the vines, facing northwest, thrive on granitic soils.
Winemaking and aging
Hand-harvested into small crates, the berries are meticulously sorted in the vineyard and then in the cellar.
Direct pressing of whole clusters is followed by static settling for 24 to 48 hours, then fermentation in a 1,200-liter oak vat.
Aging on fine lees is carried out for 4 months. After the prise de mousse by a natural method, additional aging on the lees is carried out for 12 months in bottle before the wine is released.
Blend
Empire 2016 from Domaine Comte Abbatucci is made exclusively from the Barbarossa grape variety.
