Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Myglands" Monopole 2023 Domaine Faiveley

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a seductive purple hue, both vibrant and deep.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with expressive notes of red and black fruits, subtly underscored by delicate woody and smoky touches.

Palate
Generous and full-bodied, the palate offers a lovely harmony with the nose, unfolding rich flavours of cherry, raspberry and plum, complemented by floral, earthy and sweet spice nuances. Supported by refreshing acidity and particularly silky, velvety tannins, the fleshy texture extends into a remarkably long finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, such as duck with cherries or chicken served with a rich mushroom sauce. It also enhances grilled red meats, game such as venison, as well as boards of aged French hard cheeses.

Service and Storage

The Elegance and Depth of a Great Burgundy Wine by Domaine Faiveley

The Estate

Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley has established itself as a true institution in Burgundy. Now led by the seventh generation, represented by Erwan Faiveley and his sister Eve, the family estate oversees an exceptional vineyard of more than 120 hectares spread across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Combining respect for tradition with innovation, the estate stands out for its strong environmental commitment, crowned by organic certification for the entirety of its land in 2025.

The Vineyard

Located in the Côte Chalonnaise, the Climat from which this wine originates is an exclusive monopole of 6.31 hectares. Positioned in the north-east of the Mercurey appellation, this terroir benefits from an ideal south-east exposure for grape ripening. The vines, the oldest of which were planted in 1963, thrive on deep soils composed of iron-rich limestone clay and a few pebbles. All of these plots are managed according to the principles of organic viticulture.

The Vintage

The year 2023 benefited from particularly favourable weather conditions. After a spring spared from frost, summer proved warm with cool nights, helping to preserve a lovely natural acidity. Moderate rainfall and a favourable autumn led to an early harvest, yielding grapes of remarkable quality, with perfect balance and optimal ripeness.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes, whole or destemmed, are transferred by gravity into wooden vats for a gentle fermentation aimed at preserving the brightness of the fruit. The Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Myglands" Monopole 2023 then benefits from a meticulous ageing period of 15 months in fine-grained, medium-toast French oak barrels. This maturation period uses a proportion of 30% new barrels, with the rest being barrels that have already held one or more wines.
