Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of "L'Oca" 2023 from Domaine Le Roc Des Anges
Tasting
Colour
This white wine from Roussillon displays a very pale, luminous golden hue, enhanced by delicate grey nuances.
Nose
Remarkably complex, the bouquet opens with floral and herbaceous notes reminiscent of violet, liquorice and mountain herbs. It then evolves towards citrus aromas, such as lemon and blood orange, rounded out by touches of white flowers and acacia honey, all underpinned by a pronounced minerality.
Palate
Brimming with energy, the attack proves round and spherical before stretching out with striking verticality. The palate unfolds with elegance and precision, revealing flavours of stone fruit and citrus (juicy peach, ripe lemon, pear and persimmon). Carried by a lively acidity and a delicate minerality, the tasting concludes with a saline, focused finish of remarkable length.
Food and wine pairing
Ideal with a scallop carpaccio, this white wine will also pair wonderfully with delicate fish (steamed or poached), as well as with white meats or river fish accompanied by a mushroom reduction or an herb infusion.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate "L'Oca" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, ideally in Burgundy-style glasses, after airing for 15 to 20 minutes.
The mineral elegance of a great white wine from Roussillon
The estate
Founded in 2001 by Marjorie Gallet, Domaine Le Roc Des Anges is located in Montner, in the Agly Valley. This roughly thirty-hectare vineyard has established itself as an essential reference thanks to its philosophy centred on biodynamics and the pure expression of terroir. The estate is now recognised worldwide for its wines' exceptional precision and aromatic purity.
The vineyard
Produced under the IGP Côtes Catalanes, this wine comes from a single plot planted in 1957. The old vines flourish on a distinctive terroir composed of ancient schist crossed by a vein of iron-rich red clay. This geological formation, whose shape recalls a goose (oca in Catalan), gives the wine its name and identity. The vineyard is farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles, with entirely manual harvesting and very low yields.
The vintage
2023 offered ideal climatic conditions, achieving a perfect balance between fruit ripeness and freshness. The cool ripening conditions favoured optimal concentration in the berries while preserving the fine natural acidity essential to the growing cycle.
Winemaking and aging
The making of "L'Oca" 2023 relies on a minimal-intervention approach. After whole-bunch pressing and natural settling, fermentation begins thanks to indigenous yeasts. To preserve its full mineral tension, this wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place exclusively in used oak barrels and foudres of various capacities, with no recourse to new wood whatsoever. The wine is then lightly filtered, without fining, before bottling.
Grape variety
Macabeu (100%).
