Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Côte de Nuits-Villages Village 2023 by Domaine Nicole Lamarche
Tasting
Colour
The wine displays a brilliant ruby-red colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with luscious notes of juicy red and black fruits, recalling raspberry, cherry and blackcurrant. Subtle hints of fine spices intertwine with delicate nuances of leather and wood, adding lovely complexity.
Palate
On the palate, this red wine charms with its fluid, velvety texture, supported by exceptionally delicate chalky tannins. The pure expression of fruit unfolds with freshness and mineral tension, leading to a long, finely spiced finish.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with full-flavoured meats such as a game paupiette with mushrooms, duck breast with red berries or a fine cut of roast beef. It will also enhance aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or Langres.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at around 16°C, taking care to decant it for 30 to 60 minutes in its youth. It can be enjoyed now but will continue to develop in the cellar until around 2035.
An elegant and well-balanced Côte de Nuits-Villages red wine
The estate
Located in Vosne-Romanée, in the heart of Burgundy, France, Domaine Nicole Lamarche embodies winemaking excellence. Founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche, the estate has grown over the generations across prestigious terroirs. Today, Nicole Lamarche heads the domaine, having officially renamed it after herself in 2018. A passionate advocate of environmentally respectful viticulture, she brings a modern and sensitive vision to the estate, favouring biodynamics and exceptionally refined ageing. The domaine is renowned worldwide for its elegant wines, which reflect the absolute purity of the fruit.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Côte de Nuits-Villages cuvée come from carefully selected plots on rocky limestone slopes south of Prémeaux-Prissey. True to her environmental philosophy, the winemaker works with partner growers committed to soil-friendly practices, who farm their vines according to organic principles, whether certified or not.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand to preserve the integrity of the berries. After almost complete destemming, maceration takes place over 15 to 18 days in open wooden vats. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine undergoes meticulous ageing for 16 to 20 months in oak barrels, at least 60% of which are new, bringing structure and complexity.
Grape variety
