Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Pinot Gris "Clos Windsbuhl" 2022 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
Tasting
Colour
The colour is a vivid, intense yellow, bright and limpid, hinting at a concentrated yet never heavy palate.
Nose
Initially discreet and marked by smoky notes, the nose gradually opens to reveal beautiful aromas of white fruit and honeyed melon, accompanied by delicate floral nuances.
Palate
The palate captivates with a dry structure underpinned by acidity, while revealing a silky, caressing concentration. Salinity and mineral tension, typical of the limestone terroir, leave a deep imprint on a long, vibrant finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Pinot Gris is an ideal partner for roast poultry, particularly when served with wild mushrooms, where the wine's smoky character beautifully underscores the earthy flavours of the dish. It also makes an excellent companion for refined cuisine combining richness and umami flavours.
Serving and Cellaring
The Pinot Gris "Clos Windsbuhl" 2022 is best served chilled. Thanks to its acidic structure and salinity, it has high ageing potential and will continue to evolve favourably for several years.

The Estate
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, founded in 1959 in Turckheim, Alsace, by Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind, is now run by Olivier Humbrecht, the first French Master of Wine, and his wife Margaret, joined since 2019 by their son Pierre-Emile. Committed to biodynamics since 2002 (organic since 1998), the estate cultivates a mosaic of grands crus and emblematic clos, including the Clos Windsbuhl, a monopole located in Hunawihr, which perfectly illustrates its philosophy of respect for terroir.
The Vineyard
The Clos Windsbuhl, the estate's monopole in Hunawihr, lies on limestone soils combining marl and dolomitic limestone. This favourably exposed terroir in Alsace allows for slow ripening of the grapes and contributes to the saline, mineral expression characteristic of the wines produced from it.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage proved sun-drenched, with hot, dry conditions across the whole of Alsace. Thanks to its late-ripening terroir, the Clos Windsbuhl allowed for a more gradual ripening of the grapes, thereby preserving remarkable freshness and acidity despite the heat of the year.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Pinot Gris "Clos Windsbuhl" 2022 underwent a slow fermentation, followed by ageing on the lees in oak foudres, in keeping with the estate's traditional style.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Gris, sourced from the vines of the Clos Windsbuhl in Hunawihr.
