Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the 2024 "Clos Windsbuhl" Riesling, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
Tasting notes
Colour
This white wine reveals a brilliant straw-yellow hue, with subtle greenish highlights that testify to its remarkable freshness.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of flint, harmoniously complemented by citrus notes such as lemon zest and white peach, along with delicate floral touches.
Palate
Displaying great purity, the palate is crystalline and powerful. The delicate attack quickly gives way to a taut structure, carried by vibrant acidity and flavours of white grapefruit and lemon, extending into a long, saline, chalky finish.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with seafood, such as oysters, sushi or white fish in a creamy sauce. It also enhances aged hard cheeses, delicate poultry dishes and preparations based on asparagus or artichokes.
Service and storage
Endowed with remarkable ageing potential, this 2024 "Clos Windsbuhl" Riesling can be cellared for many years to reveal its full complexity, with a peak that may extend to around 2047.
Other characteristics
This wine stands out for its dry profile, with very low residual sugar (around 2.6 g/l in recent vintages) and a pH close to 3, ensuring excellent stability and vibrant freshness.
The pure, mineral expression of a great Alsatian limestone terroir
The estate
Founded in 1959 following the marriage of Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is a true institution in Alsace. Located in Turckheim, France, the estate spans around forty hectares spread across exceptional terroirs. Today, the domaine is led by Olivier Humbrecht, the first Frenchman to earn the prestigious title of Master of Wine. A pioneer of environmentally responsible viticulture, the estate is distinguished by its biodynamic approach and its unwavering commitment to producing wines that reflect the purest expression of their terroirs of origin.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Hunawihr in Alsace, Clos Windsbuhl is a historic monopole rising to around 350 metres in altitude. This late-ripening terroir is characterised by steep slopes and a highly distinctive soil composed of muschelkalk limestone, clay and chalk. The outcropping bedrock forces the vines to root deeply, giving the grapes a unique mineral identity. The entire vineyard is cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles, with soil work carried out using animals to preserve biodiversity.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the 2024 "Clos Windsbuhl" Riesling are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, the philosophy is minimally interventionist. Fermentation begins spontaneously through indigenous yeasts and proceeds very slowly in large century-old oak foudres, without any artificial temperature control. The wine is then aged for an extended period on full lees, ranging from 6 to 24 months depending on requirements, without any racking. A light filtration is carried out just before bottling.
