Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Gevrey-Chambertin "Village" 2024 Frédéric Esmonin

Tasting

Colour
Boasting a beautiful red colour, it reveals a visual intensity greater than previous vintages, reflecting a lovely concentration.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with vibrant notes of cherry and strawberry. It then evolves towards scents of undergrowth and mushrooms, delicately underlined by touches of vanilla and spice from the ageing process.

Palate
The palate opens with a silky texture and remarkably soft tannins. The balance is remarkable, carried by a refreshing acidity and a lovely minerality. The finish, clean and persistent, extends the fruity expression with great elegance.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats such as duck, beef bourguignon or coq au vin. It also pairs very well with feathered game, Mediterranean dishes featuring lamb and herbs, as well as mushroom-based recipes. As for cheese, it beautifully enhances pressed cow's milk cheeses or aged goat cheeses.

Service and storage

For an optimal tasting experience of this Gevrey-Chambertin "Village" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16°C, taking care to decant it 30 to 45 minutes before serving. Approachable in its youth, it has the structure needed to develop favourably in the cellar and can be enjoyed until approximately 2032.

The elegance and authenticity of a great Gevrey-Chambertin wine

The estate

Located in France, in the heart of Burgundy, the Frédéric Esmonin estate is an essential reference. While the family had already been growing vines for major merchants, the modern history of the estate began with independent bottling in 1988, followed by the official creation of the structure in 1992. Today, Frédéric Esmonin runs this roughly four-hectare vineyard with the help of his father, André. Favouring a family-focused approach, the estate stands out for its commitment to producing authentic wines that faithfully reflect their terroir of origin.

The vineyard

The grapes for this Gevrey-Chambertin come from plots located on the gentle slopes and plains of the village. Facing south-east and east, the vines benefit from ideal morning sunlight. They thrive on brown, limestone-rich soils composed of marl, scree, and red silt. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, intervening only when absolutely necessary in order to preserve the natural balance and biodiversity of the soils.

The vintage

2024 was a particularly demanding year in terms of weather. Marked by high humidity and historically low sunshine levels, the season saw significant pressure from mildew. However, moderate temperatures allowed the surviving grapes to reach optimal physiological ripeness. Despite very low yields, the harvested berries offer a fresh, crisp and perfectly balanced profile.

Winemaking and ageing

For this Gevrey-Chambertin "Village" 2024, the grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness. After complete destemming, a short cold maceration precedes fermentation triggered by indigenous yeasts. Extraction is carried out gently using a modern pneumatic press. The wine is then aged for 14 to 17 months in French oak barrels, with 20% new oak. It is finally bottled without prior filtration, with a single racking, in order to preserve its full complexity.
