A white wine from Languedoc with Mediterranean influences

The estate

Founded in 1992 by Gérard Bertrand, a former international rugby player turned visionary winemaker, the brand stands out for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture. Based in Languedoc, the estate now brings together 17 properties across approximately 1,000 hectares, all Demeter-certified. A pioneer of large-scale biodynamics since 2002, Gérard Bertrand has turned Languedoc wines into international benchmarks, with a presence in 180 countries.

The vineyard

The Château L'Hospitalet vineyard enjoys an exceptional location in Narbonne, just 100 meters from the Mediterranean, in the heart of the La Clape appellation. The semi-arid Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild winters and generous sunshine, is moderated by the limestone soils and the sea’s proximity. These Languedoc vines thrive on two types of terroirs: marl-limestone soils rich in fossils that ensure good water retention, and Mediterranean red soils formed on compact gray-blue chalk, which bring richness and concentration. The estate practices sustainable viticulture following the Demeter biodynamic approach.

Winemaking and aging

The Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" 2022 grapes are harvested by hand. Upon arrival at the winery, the bunches are pneumatically pressed, the press juices are separated, and static settling is carried out. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels with temperature control. Aging lasts 7 to 8 months in barrels until the spring equinox, accompanied by regular bâtonnage for two months. A light fining precedes bottling.

Grape varieties

Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Vermentino.
