Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Côte de Beaune-Villages Village 2022 by Joseph Drouhin

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a vibrant, luminous violet hue.

Nose
Delicate and remarkably complex, the nose weaves together aromas of crisp red fruits, such as raspberry and strawberry, with notes of black fruits including blackberry and blackcurrant. The whole is enhanced by floral touches of peony and violet, along with subtle spicy nuances.

Palate
Ample, full-bodied and beautifully fresh, the palate seduces with its harmony. It is supported by silky, high-quality tannins, offering a perfect balance between structure and fruity expression.

Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with white meats, such as roast poultry or a fillet of veal. It also goes very well with mushroom-based dishes, as well as soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert.

Serving and cellaring

For an optimal tasting of this Côte de Beaune-Villages Village 2022, serving at a temperature of 16°C is recommended. This wine can be enjoyed from its early years, with a peak between two and five years, and can be kept in the cellar to be drunk until around 2029.

The elegance and finesse of a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune

The estate

Founded in 1880 in Beaune, France, the Joseph Drouhin House is a historic family-owned estate in Burgundy. Today, the fourth generation leads the estate, with Frédéric Drouhin as president, accompanied by Philippe, Véronique and Laurent. Extending over nearly 100 hectares, from Chablis to the Mâconnais, the estate stands out as a true pioneer of organic and biodynamic viticulture, certified for more than 35 years. The estate is distinguished by its constant pursuit of elegance and its deep respect for living things, revealing the richness of Burgundian terroirs.

The vineyard

The grapes for this Côte de Beaune-Villages come from carefully selected plots from loyal partner winegrowers. The vines flourish on the clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation, with a high planting density that encourages deep rooting. The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand, in slatted crates, in order to preserve the quality and integrity of the berries.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage offered climatic conditions that allowed for excellent ripeness. This vintage stands out for its red wines of remarkable brightness, endowed with exceptional fruity intensity, great freshness and particularly high-quality tannins.

Winemaking and aging

The making of this Côte de Beaune-Villages Village 2022 begins with complete destemming of the grape clusters. Maceration and fermentation, carried out with indigenous yeasts, extend over one to two weeks with gentle extraction via vertical or pneumatic presses. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 10 to 14 months, including 15 to 20% new oak. This wood is meticulously selected and air-dried for three years to refine the tannic structure without masking the fruit.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
