Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Le Troncsec 2024 by Joseph Mellot

Tasting

Color
The color shows a pale yellow hue, enhanced by delicate green highlights.

Nose
The bouquet reveals great aromatic complexity. White fruits and citrus fruits blend harmoniously with exotic notes of passion fruit and lychee. A subtle mineral nuance rounds out this aromatic spectrum.

Palate
The attack reveals an almost salty mineral structure that gives the whole wine a firm backbone. Dense and precise, the palate offers perfect balance. The finish stands out for its intensity and persistence, carried by aromas of citrus fruits and exotic fruits.

Food pairing

This Pouilly-Fumé is an ideal match for poultry with citrus fruits or a slowly braised veal ragout (Blanquette de veau). It also pairs beautifully with regional cheeses, especially Crottin de Chavignol.

Serving and cellaring potential

Le Troncsec 2024 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 8 and 10°C to fully express its aromas. Drink through around 2027.

A generous and complex Pouilly-Fumé

The estate

Founded in 1513 by Pierre-Etienne Mellot, the Joseph Mellot house has carried on more than five centuries of winemaking know-how in the Centre-Loire. Led by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot since 2005, supported by her sons Armand and Adrien, the estate farms 100 hectares spread across the region’s eight AOC. As the sole owner and winemaker for all Centre-Loire appellations, Joseph Mellot is regarded as an ambassador of the great Loire wines and is present in more than forty countries.

The vineyard

This Pouilly-Fumé Troncsec spans 10 hectares of Kimmeridgian calcareous marl soils. The 30-year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines benefit from integrated farming with mechanical soil cultivation. Mechanical harvesting took place in early October.

The vintage

The winter of 2024 proved very mild, leading to very early budburst. The temperate spring was particularly rainy and brought strong downy mildew pressure. The summer, temperate and rather humid, shaped this year’s growing cycle.

Vinification and aging

Le Troncsec 2024 is produced according to rigorous methods. After direct pressing in a pneumatic press with selection of the juices, cold settling is carried out. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Aging on fine lees in stainless-steel tanks preserves the wine’s freshness and minerality.

Grape variety

This white wine from the Loire is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
