Decanter

Gorgeous milk chocolate on the perfumed nose which also shows roses and blackcurrants. Supple and agile, this flows nicely in the mouth. Grainy texture, flavours of medicinal herbs, anise, clove, a touch of liquorice with dark bramble fruits spreading across the palate, with a little bitterness on the cheeks and tongue, but good density and focus, and I love the powdery tannins. Juicy, precise and focused. A nice effort with good overall freshness. I like the comforting texture. A blend of 78% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot. Aged 12 months, 30% new oak.

Aromas of blackcurrants, blackberries and fresh flowers follow through to a medium body, with juicy, rounded tannins that deliver delicious intensity. Currants and berries. Fresh and focused. 78% merlot and 18% cabernet, the rest petit verdot. Drink after 2026.

Falstaff

Deep ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening at the rim. Fine cassis, licorice, candied orange zest. Medium body, dark cherries, freshly structured, integrated tannins, mineral, persistent, already seems well-developed.

What can be thought of as the third wine of the château, the 2020 Le Petit Ducru De Ducru-Beaucaillou is mostly Merlot yet includes 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. It's a legit wine and has classic aromatics of cassis, darker berries, violets, and a kiss of minerality to go with a medium to full-bodied style on the palate. Ripe, concentrated, and balanced, this terrific wine can be enjoyed any time over the coming 10-12 years (and I have no doubt it will keep even longer).

78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, alcohol 13.75% vol. Deep purple with a dark core. Intense bouquet of black cherry, violet fragrance, a delicate touch of arabica and licorice. On the dense palate, soft texture, supporting tannic framework, robust, brawny body. In the focused finish, plenty of dark fruit, a subtle graphite note and a structuring astringency.

(78% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 13.75% alc./vol.) Floral, silky, slender bouquet, raspberries, blackcurrants, pepper. Slender, firm, medium-bodied palate with good sweet fruit, delicately edgy, velvety structure, fine-sandy tannins, spicy aromatics, bitter finish. 16/20 2024 - 2035

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

A blend of 78% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2020 Le Petit Ducru is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps with vibrant notes of redcurrant jelly, fresh blackberries, and pencil shavings with wafts of fallen leaves and dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate delivers a refreshing line and plush tannins with a lovely savoriness to the finish.

Le Figaro Vin

Exuberant red and black fruits on the nose—expressive, rich, and supple—along with notes of blueberries and flowers. Precise and vibrant on the palate, with fruit intensity building crescendo, and a light, refreshing bitterness that adds complexity.
