A Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru with a distinctly Burgundian character
The estate
Established in 1797 by Jean Latour in Aloxe-Corton, the Louis Latour House has remained an independent family business for eleven generations. Owning around 48 hectares of vineyards in Burgundy, including 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru, it holds the region’s largest Grand Cru vineyard estate. Currently led by Florent Latour, the house is preparing to hand over the reins to Eléonore Latour, who will become the first woman to lead this historic institution. A pioneer in planting chardonnay in Corton-Charlemagne, Louis Latour exports more than 400,000 cases to 60 countries.
The vineyard
"La Grande Montagne" is a Chassagne-Montrachet wine from a 0.5-hectare plot located on the Montagne de Chassagne, at the top of the hillside, south of Puligny-Montrachet. Accessible only via a small dirt track, this vegetation-fringed plot reaches an altitude of 310 metres. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, are rooted in subsoil composed of marl and limestone. Average yields are 40 hectolitres per hectare, and the grapes are harvested by hand.
Winemaking and ageing
Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Grande Montagne" 2023 is vinified traditionally in oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in full. Ageing takes place over 8 to 10 months in medium-toast French oak barrels from the Tonnellerie Louis Latour, 50% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
This white Burgundy wine is made from 100% chardonnay.
