Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Corton Grancey Grand Cru 2016 by Louis Latour

Tasting

Appearance
An elegant, deep color with garnet highlights.

Nose
A complex nose combining tobacco, strawberry, and floral nuances for a refined bouquet.

Palate
A broad, tightly knit palate, driven by subtle notes of morello cherry and licorice. Magnificent length on the finish.

Serving and aging potential

For optimal enjoyment, serve between 60.8 and 62.6°F. This red wine from Burgundy can rest in the cellar until around 2033.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with wild boar with black cherries, duck à l'orange, roasted quail, grilled prime rib, or aged cheeses.

The finesse and persistence of a great Burgundy grand cru

The estate

Founded in 1797, the Maison Louis Latour is today represented by the 11th generation, headed by Louis-Fabrice Latour. A négociant-éleveur, Maison Louis Latour owns the largest Grand Cru estate in Burgundy.

The vineyard

In 1891, the Latour family acquired the château located along the Route des Cortons, previously owned by the Grancey family. Produced only in exceptional years, this Château Corton Grancey Grand Cru by Louis Latour is crafted from grapes sourced from five climats (Bressandes, Perrières, Grèves, Clos du Roi, and Chaumes). On average 40 years old, these vineyards are planted on marl and limestone soils characteristic of the Corton appellation.

Winemaking and aging

Once the manual harvest is completed, fermentation is carried out traditionally in open vats with 100% malolactic fermentation. Aging for 10 to 12 months takes place in French oak barrels (35% new) from Maison Louis Latour’s own cooperage.

Blend

Pinot Noir (100%).
