An elegant and refined Burgundy Premier Cru by Louis Latour
The estate
Founded in 1797, the Louis Latour House has upheld Burgundian family know-how for eleven generations. Rooted in Aloxe-Corton, it owns the largest Grand Cru estate in Burgundy with 48 hectares of vines, including 28 hectares of Grand Cru. An independent house, it stands out for its exceptional heritage and its historic contribution to the renown of Burgundy’s great terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Les Mitans" climat parcel lies on the hillside, halfway between the Beaune–Chalon-sur-Saône road and the village of Volnay. The name "Mitans" means "middle" in Old French, reflecting this distinctive geographical position. The vines, averaging 25 years of age, thrive on clay-limestone soils. Carefully tended, the vineyard delivers a controlled yield of 35 hectoliters per hectare. Harvesting is done by hand to preserve the integrity of the grapes.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking for Volnay Premier Cru "Les Mitans" 2020 is carried out traditionally in open vat. Malolactic fermentation is completed at 100%. Aging lasts 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels, 35% of which are new. The barrels come from Tonnellerie Louis Latour and receive a medium toast, allowing for a harmonious integration of oak notes.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape of the Côte de Beaune.
