Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Aloxe-Corton 1er cru "Clos du Chapitre" 2023 Morey-Blanc

Tasting

Colour
With beautiful intensity, this wine's red colour captures the light brilliantly.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with elegant notes of small dark berries such as blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry. It then develops delicate floral nuances reminiscent of iris and peony, underscored by touches of liquorice, spice and mineral earth.

Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate offers a refined structure carried by ripe, juicy, silky tannins. The heart of the wine reveals flavours of black cherry and blackberry, evolving into a caressing, persistent and subtly spiced finish with great mineral precision.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted or braised feathered game, such as duck, pheasant or goose. It also perfectly complements beef bourguignon, venison stew or slow-cooked meats served with a wild mushroom sauce (porcini, chanterelles, morels). For cheese, opt for full-flavoured, well-aged varieties such as Comté, Gruyère or Époisses.

Service and storage

This Aloxe-Corton 1er cru "Clos du Chapitre" 2023 deserves a few years of patience to reveal its full potential. It will be ideal to enjoy from around 2028 or 2029, and can continue to evolve favourably in the cellar throughout the 2030s.

Other characteristics

This wine has a moderate to high alcohol content, generally ranging between 13.5% and 14.5%, perfectly balanced by a solid natural acidity that can reach 7 grams per litre.

The elegance and mineral complexity of a Premier Cru from the Côte de Beaune by Morey-Blanc

The estate

Founded in 1992 by Pierre Morey to offset the loss of former sharecropping contracts, the négociant house Morey-Blanc has built its reputation in Burgundy on rigorous standards. Working in close synergy with the family estate, the company sources its grapes exclusively from partner winegrowers who bottle their own wines. Now led by Anne Morey, joined by her son Jean-Victor, the estate continues a pioneering approach to biodynamics initiated back in the 1990s. The vineyard holdings span approximately 11 hectares in total, yielding authentic cuvées that showcase the terroirs of the Côte de Beaune with remarkable precision.

The vineyard

The terroir of the Premier Cru "Clos du Chapitre" lies at the heart of the village of Aloxe-Corton. This historic walled clos is a near-monopoly shared between two producers. East-facing, the vines benefit from the morning sun while avoiding the excessive heat of the afternoon. The particularly stony soil consists of a clay matrix rich in limestone fragments. This geology ensures optimal drainage and forces the roots to draw their nutrients from deep below, giving the wine its characteristic minerality. The vineyard is cultivated according to the demanding principles of biodynamics.

The vintage

The year 2023 began with a particularly warm March, leading to early budbreak. Spring then proved mild, sparing the vines from frost and providing favourable humidity for foliage development. Summer enjoyed moderate temperatures, without excessive heat or drought, allowing the berries to ripen gradually and healthily. Harvesting took place over a very short window, yielding grapes of impeccable sanitary quality.

Winemaking and aging

To craft this Aloxe-Corton 1er cru "Clos du Chapitre" 2023, the grapes are hand-harvested, rigorously sorted and then fully destemmed. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts in oak vats, following a cold maceration designed to extract colour and aromas. Gentle punching down and pumping over accompany the process, under strict temperature control. Malolactic fermentation takes place in spring. The wine is aged for 15 to 20 months in barrels, with a late first racking, before being bottled without fining or filtration.
