Description
The smoothness and balance of a Californian red wine
The estate
Created in 2006 by the Franco-American duo Luc and Jodie Morlet, Morlet Family Vineyards showcases the exceptional terroirs of Sonoma County and Napa Valley. Coming from a lineage of Champagne winemakers spanning five generations, Luc Morlet, who graduated in oenology in Reims, perfected his craft at Château Dauzac in Margaux before settling in California with Jodie. Together, they first established vineyards dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, then extended their expertise to other grape varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Acclaimed by international critics, the estate's wines enjoy unanimous recognition.
The vineyard
The "Coeur de Vallée" vineyard, located in the prestigious Oakville appellation in the center of Napa Valley, is crossed by the To Kalon creek. Planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it sits on well-draining alluvial soil, rich in gravel (40 to 60%), shaped by the Mayacamas mountain range. This unique terroir, enhanced by the nobility of neighboring estates, produces a wine crafted with respect for traditional methods, proudly bearing the name of its origin: "Coeur de Vallée".
Vinification and aging
Harvested manually at night to preserve their freshness, the grapes are sorted with extreme care. Refrigerated then 100% destemmed, the berries undergo fermentation with indigenous yeasts, then the wine is aged 16 months in French oak barrels. Bottling takes place without fining or filtration.
Blend
Coeur de Vallée Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 from Morlet is the result of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (97%) and Cabernet Franc (3%).
