Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bourgogne Aligoté 2024 Olivier Leflaive

Tasting

Colour
This white wine from France reveals a delicate pale gold hue.

Nose
Fresh and remarkably precise, the aromatic bouquet reveals lovely fruity notes reminiscent of green apple and citrus.

Palate
The palate is defined by a vibrant, structuring acidity typical of the grape variety. Partial ageing in oak lends a subtle roundness and a light richness that balance perfectly with the wine's overall freshness. The tasting concludes with a particularly mouth-watering finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with regional specialities such as jambon persillé, a mille-feuille of snails, or a faisselle. More broadly, its vivacity pairs perfectly with oysters, freshwater fish, composed salads, or poultry served with a light white sauce.

Service and Storage

For optimal enjoyment, this Bourgogne Aligoté 2024 is best served at a temperature of between 10 and 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2029.

Other Characteristics

This dry wine has a moderate alcohol content of 12.5% vol.

The Brilliance and Minerality of a White Burgundy

The Estate

Founded in 1984 by Olivier Leflaive, the eponymous house is a key reference in Burgundy. Located in Puligny-Montrachet, it stands out for its innovative approach combining estate winemaking and merchant trading. Today led by Jean Soubeyrand, managing director, with Julie Leflaive at the helm of oenotourism, the Olivier Leflaive estate oversees a heritage of 100 hectares of vines, including 26 hectares of its own. Certified Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3, the estate embodies Burgundian excellence through a mosaic of 82 different climats.

The Vineyard

This Burgundy is crafted from a careful selection of plots spread across the communes of Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault and Corpeau. Reaching an average altitude of 220 to 230 metres, the vines, around forty years old, thrive on terroirs with clay-limestone and clay-silt soils. These geological features encourage mineral expression and freshness in the grapes. Viticulture here follows sustainable practices.

The Vintage

The 2024 vintage put winegrowers to the test, with persistent humidity and record rainfall fostering strong mildew pressure. Terroirs with good natural drainage proved more resilient. Thanks to relentless work in the vineyards and swiftly conducted harvests, the crop ultimately revealed unexpected quality, yielding juices of remarkable freshness and brilliance.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for this Bourgogne Aligoté 2024 are harvested 90% by hand and 10% by machine. Upon arrival at the winery, the whole clusters are gently pressed without destemming, and the must then undergoes a 24-hour static settling period. Ageing lasts a total of 10 months, including 4 months of blending in bulk. To preserve the purity of the fruit while adding a subtle complexity, the wine is aged 90% in stainless steel tanks and 10% in oak barrels.
