Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Abbaye de Morgeot" Domaine 2024 Olivier Leflaive

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a delicate, pale golden hue.

Nose
The bouquet displays remarkable complexity, blending power with the delicacy of rare vine flower aromas. It also opens onto notes of white flowers, fruit, and a subtle mineral touch.

Palate
Full-bodied and concentrated, the palate seduces with its depth and great finesse. The vintage's natural acidity brings a crisp freshness, perfectly balanced by a harmonious, well-rounded texture.

Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with shellfish, such as oysters or scallops, as well as with poultry served in a creamy sauce.

Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, this wine should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. It can be enjoyed from 2026 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2035.

The Richness and Minerality of a Great White Wine from Chassagne-Montrachet

The Estate
Founded in 1984 in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet, the Olivier Leflaive house is a benchmark name in Burgundy. While the family's winemaking history dates back to 1717, it was the creation of this négociant and winemaking structure that forged its modern identity. Now led by Brice de la Morandière, representing the fourth generation, the estate oversees 26 hectares of vineyards in its own right. A pioneer of environmentally responsible viticulture, the estate stands out for its biodynamic approach and its High Environmental Value certification, showcasing each terroir with precision.

The Vineyard
This Chassagne-Montrachet is crafted from a blend of plots spanning 11.36 hectares within the renowned Abbaye de Morgeot climat. Located on the mid-slope, between 230 and 250 metres in altitude, the vines are 45 years old on average. They thrive on deep, clay-rich soils marked by the presence of oolitic limestone. The vineyard is farmed according to HVE 3 certification principles, with harvesting carried out entirely by hand.

The Vintage
2024 proved to be a particularly demanding year. After a mild, rainy winter that led to early budbreak in mid-March, spring was marked by persistent humidity, low sunshine, and heavy mildew pressure. Flowering stretched over a fortnight, causing coulure. Fortunately, dry and windy weather set in during August and early September, providing ideal conditions for the berries to reach full ripeness ahead of a tightly packed nine-day harvest starting on September 13th.

Winemaking and Aging
The whole clusters are pressed immediately and gently using pneumatic presses. The must then undergoes a 24-hour static settling process. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations of this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Abbaye de Morgeot" Domaine 2024 take place entirely in French oak barrels (25% of which are new). Aging lasts 18 months, including regular lees stirring until winter and a six-month period of blending in bulk before bottling.

Grape Variety
Chardonnay (100%).
