A Great Meursault from Burgundy by Patrick Javillier

The estate
Located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, the Patrick Javillier estate now spans between 10 and 11 hectares. Although the family's winegrowing history dates back to 1945, the official founding and takeover of the current structure took place in 1983. Renowned for its great white wines, the estate is currently run by Marion Javillier, who oversees the estate and the red wines, supported by Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy, in charge of the vines and the white wines. Together, this duo carries on the excellence of the brand with an approach that respects the terroir.

The vineyard
This Meursault cuvée comes from a small plot of 0.62 hectares comprising vines at least thirty years old. It is the result of a blend of two distinct climats. On one side, Les Casse-Têtes, located on the Meursault slope with an east-facing exposure and very shallow soil. On the other, Les Murgers de Monthelie, situated on the Volnay slope, facing west, resting on about 80 centimetres of clay and rocks of volcanic origin. The estate favours sustainable viticulture with manual harvesting.

The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by contrasting weather conditions. The summer brought intense heat, favouring excellent berry concentration and optimal phenolic ripeness. Fortunately, particularly cool nights at the end of the growing season helped preserve the grapes' beautiful natural acidity, ensuring a perfect balance.

Winemaking and aging
For this 2023 Meursault, the hand-harvested grapes undergo rigorous sorting directly in the vineyard. After gentle pneumatic pressing, the must is transferred into barrels. Alcoholic fermentation starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes classic aging in oak barrels, allowing its structure to develop while respecting the identity of its terroirs of origin.
