Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 from Terrazas de los Andes

Tasting

Appearance

The wine reveals a deep, intense red hue.

Nose

The nose opens on an expressive bouquet of fresh red and black fruits, notably redcurrant and blueberry. Spicy notes of thyme, rosemary, and cardamom add complexity, while indulgent touches of hazelnut cream, vanilla, and caramel round out the aromatic profile.

Palate

On the palate, the wine charms with its balance between acidity and fruit, offering a juicy, rounded texture. Redcurrant flavors dominate the mid-palate, supported by supple, complex, vibrant tannins. The whole is elegant, layered, and marked by lovely fruity freshness.

Food and wine pairings

This Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 pairs ideally with game meats such as rabbit, venison, or wild boar. It also matches perfectly with grilled lamb and red meats. Dishes prepared with aromatic herbs such as rosemary, thyme, bay leaf, or cinnamon make excellent pairings. For a bolder experience, this wine can also accompany desserts made with dark chocolate, plums, figs, or raspberries.

Serving and cellaring

The Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 is best enjoyed at a temperature of 14°C. This wine has aging potential until around 2032.

A high-altitude Argentine Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendoza

The estate

Founded in 1996 by Moët & Chandon, Terrazas de los Andes has established itself as a pioneer in revealing high-altitude Argentine wines. Based in Perdriel in the Mendoza region, the estate farms 537 hectares of vineyards spread between Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, at elevations ranging from 1,070 to 1,250 meters. The property stands out for its systematic plot-by-plot approach and its low-intervention winemaking, favoring the authentic expression of exceptional mountain terroirs.

The vineyard

This Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 comes from a blend of more than 25 plots sourced from 4 high-altitude vineyards located in the regions of Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, in the Andes. The vines thrive between 1,000 and 1,200 meters above sea level, benefiting from organic farming and sustainable practices. These remarkable high-altitude conditions give the wine its freshness and distinctive character, typical of the terroirs of Mendoza.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage in Argentina was marked by a heatwave at the beginning of January requiring targeted irrigation, followed by cooler temperatures during the final ripening period. An atypical early frost occurred in March. Despite these climatic challenges, the grapes achieved remarkable balance between sugar ripeness and phenolic ripeness, delivering exceptional harvest quality.

Winemaking and aging

The Cabernet Sauvignon 2022 grapes were harvested early to preserve freshness and acidity. Gentle maceration was carried out for 15 to 20 days. Aging took place over 12 months in used French oak barrels, while part of the wine was kept in tank to preserve the purity of the fruit.
