The estate
Founded in 1691, the Domaine Valentin Zusslin is located in Orschwihr, between Colmar and Mulhouse. Covering 16 hectares of vineyards, this family estate is now run by Marie and Jean-Paul Zusslin, representing the thirteenth generation. A pioneer of biodynamics in Alsace since 1997, the estate is certified by ECOCERT, DEMETER and BIODYVIN. Recognized among the world’s finest biodynamic producers, the estate prioritizes quality over quantity.
The vineyard
The Grand Cru Pfingstberg benefits from an ideal microclimate with a south-east exposure at around 300 meters above sea level. Protected from heavy rainfall by the Vosges peaks, this historic terroir, first mentioned in 1299, rests on soils of sandstone, marl, and limestone. A forest covers the top of the hillside, ensuring consistent vine hydration. The steep slopes have required the construction of terraces supported by sandstone walls. The estate practices respectful biodynamic viticulture, with deliberately limited yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, promoting concentration and the expression of the terroir in Alsace.
Grape variety
100% Riesling.
