The elegance and complexity of a great Central Valley wine by VIK
The estate
Founded in 2004 by Alexander and Carrie Vik, who still own it today, the VIK estate has established itself as a key name in Chilean viticulture. Located in the Central Valley, this exceptional estate spans over 4,300 hectares, of which 327 hectares were initially planted with vines. Globally recognized for its holistic approach and sustainable innovations, the estate combines avant-garde architecture with respect for biodiversity to create Chilean wines that reflect the purity of their terroir.
The vineyard
Nestled in the heart of the Central Valley, the vineyard benefits from a temperate Mediterranean climate. Coastal breezes from the Pacific Ocean moderate peak temperatures, promoting slow ripening of the grapes. The vines thrive on decomposed granite soils, both deep and porous, offering excellent drainage. The estate favors organic and biodynamic viticulture, with nighttime harvesting to preserve the freshness and integrity of the grapes.
The vintage
The year was marked by optimal weather conditions, characterized by cool temperatures, particularly in spring and autumn. Coastal breezes, blowing between 10 and 12°C, allowed for slow and precise grape ripening. In response to these climatic conditions, the growing cycle adapted, and the harvest began early, starting in the first week of March.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts naturally present in the estate’s flora. Milla Cala 2022 then undergoes careful aging for 18 months in French oak barrels.
Grape varieties
This blend is composed of 66% cabernet sauvignon, 23% carménère, 7% syrah, and 4% merlot.
