Arômes de Pavie 2015

This vintage of the second wine of Château Pavie is a blend of 66% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and was matured 50% in new and 50% in one-year-old French oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Arômes de Pavie reveals a beguiling nose of smoked meats, fragrant earth and sautéed herbs over a core of warm red and black plums, cherry compote and blackberry pie plus a waft of dried lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals very fine and ripe yet wonderfully firm tannins plus a seamless backbone of freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long with wonderful restraint and elegance.

Dark in profile, with plum, fig and blackberry fruit flavors carried by a very creamy, polished structure, picking up light ganache and licorice accents along the way. Lovely in feel, and approachable already. Drink now through 2025. 2,500 cases made.

This is tight and fully knitted together at this point. It is going to need a good six to eight years to relax, making it one of the less approachable second wines in this vintage for those looking for early drinking, but it does establish itself as a strong personality with a clear Pavie signature.

The dried-fruit and wet-earth character are eye-catching, with some cedar and sandalwood. Full-bodied, with tight tannins and superb polish and finesse. Velvety. A great second wine of Château Pavie. Try in 2022.

The 2015 Arômes de Pavie, the second wine of Pavie, emerges principally from two hectares on the plateau that were previously used for the Grand Vin. Black cherry, chocolate, new leather and plum flesh out to give this sumptuous, racy Saint-Émilion its inviting personality. Racy and alluring, the Arômes is a gorgeous wine that may very well hold some surprises down the road. Tasted two times.

The 2015 Aromes de Pavie is deep garnet in color. It comes barreling out of the glass with notions of stewed black plums, dried mulberries, and tobacco leaf, plus wafts of Indian spices and smoked meats. Full-bodied, the palate is ripe and juicy with firm, chewy tannins and fantastic tension, finishing long and decadent.

Creamy and suave, beautifully broad in scope, with delicious ripe fruit.

The colour is dark and the nose is intense, with coffee, dark chocolate and spices. The wine is dense, tannic, tight, a bit firm. 66% merlot, 21% cabernet franc, 13% cabernet sauvignon. 14.30°.

Deep garnet red with purple highlights. The bouquet is nicely intense, varietal in character with a hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine is balanced, fruity and indulgent. A wine you can start enjoying now, yet it still has a solid tannic backbone.

91–93. Barrel Sample. Spicy and ripe, this wine has a strong structure of brooding tannins. There are also great black plum and blackberry flavors here that are super-ripe.
