Blason de l'Evangile 2022

Ripe, fruity nose with stewed plums, cherries, Christmas spices, chocolate, and smoky notes; on the palate, round, rich, sweet fruit, creamy, approachable, warm in expression; good length. Will be enjoyable early.

A refined, structured second wine that emphasises purity and finesse over power. The nose is softly fragrant, offering notes of dried herbs, black fruit, and liquorice, with hints of tobacco, clove, and cinnamon. The palate is juicy, clean, and slightly tense, with a salty minerality and crisp red berry freshness. The tannins still hold some grip, giving a sense of restraint, while subtle toasty and bitter chocolate notes emerge on the finish. Lighter, crisper, and more delicate than the grand vin, it needs time to open, but the elegance is already clear. Ageing 25% concrete, 8% amphora, 10% new foudre. No new oak barrels. 3.88 pH

I like the berry and chocolate aromas, together with notes of fresh herbs and black olives. Medium-bodied with lovely fruit and a fresh, clean finish. Nice fluidity. Clean and bright. Made with less wood and some casks and amphora. From a selection of young vines. 81% merlot and 19% cabernet franc. So good to drink now, but will age nicely.

88% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Timid nose but juicy on the palate, the tannins bringing a certain rigour. Slight glow of alcohol on the finish. (JL)

Medium-bodied, soft, silky, spicy, floral and fresh, with a core of sweet, ripe, vibrant red cherries and powdered chocolate on the mid-palate, and in the elegant finish. You can enjoy this on release, and over the near term while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The wine blends 88% Merlot with 12% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2037. 90-92 pts.

The 2022 Blason De L'Evangile is rock-solid, with a charming, approachable, undeniably delicious style. Red and black fruits, truffly earth, spice, and savory flowers define the aromatics, and it’s medium to full-bodied, with a pure, silky mouthfeel and no hard edges. Drink any time over the next 10–12 years.

Ruby red in colour, deep nutmeg and clove spice, plush velvety blackberry fruits, with cracked pepper, fig and damson notes. The vintage character is clear in the exuberance, with some austerity to the tannins on the finish. 50% of the production in Blason (a slight rise from usual). 8% amphora for aging, plus 10% in large wooden casks. 3.8 pH, irrigation on young vines. 2nd year of organic certification. Harvest August 29, earliest ever, for the west-facing side of the vines only.

A rich, enveloping nose of soft, melting red fruits, as welcoming as a plush, cozy sofa. The palate is velvety and caressing, combining comfort and intensity, with sappy notes that lift perfectly ripe black fruit. Minerality takes the lead, evoking the sensation of licking slate, before a saline finish.

Beautiful expression of the bouquet with floral and fruity nuances. Slightly creamy on the attack, the wine stands out for its silky, linear, sensual yet fresh character. An inviting Blason that will be hard to resist! What a fine ambassador!
