Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bourgogne Rouge 2021 by Bruno Colin

Tasting

Colour
The glass reveals a modest red colour, typical of that year's climatic conditions.

Nose
The nose reveals cherry aromas, subtly enhanced by earthy notes and touches of spice.

Palate
Light and refreshing, the palate stands out for its lovely acidity and a long, tangy finish, offering a classic and well-balanced profile.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs perfectly with a mushroom risotto or duck breast. It also goes wonderfully with coq au vin, roast poultry, feathered game such as quail, or roasted vegetables.

Service and Storage

Thanks to its structuring acidity, this Bourgogne Rouge 2021 is built to age gracefully in the cellar while preserving its flavour qualities.

The Classic Expression of a Great Wine from the Côte de Beaune by Domaine Bruno Colin

The Estate

Established in 2003 following the division of the family estate, Domaine Bruno Colin released its first vintage in 2004. Located in the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, the estate spans 8.75 hectares across thirty plots. Today, Bruno Colin runs the estate with his wife, Stéphanie. The winemaker favours mechanical soil work and has guided his vineyard towards organic certification, achieved for the red wines in 2020.

The Vineyard

The grapes for this wine come from plots located in the villages of Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay, in the southern Côte de Beaune. This 0.62-hectare vineyard rests on classic soils composed of clay and limestone. The vines, averaging 32 years of age, benefit from strict yield control to ensure optimal fruit concentration.

The Vintage

The year began with a mild winter leading to early budbreak, followed by a devastating frost episode in early April. The cold and wet months of April and May slowed the vegetative cycle. After a brief heatwave in June that favoured flowering, a rainy July increased disease pressure. Fortunately, the return of sun and warmth from mid-August through September allowed the surviving berries to reach adequate ripeness for a late harvest at the end of September.

Winemaking and Aging

After a rigorous double sorting, the grapes are largely destemmed. A few days of cold maceration precede alcoholic fermentation, punctuated by gentle pump-overs under controlled temperatures. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, about 25% of which are new, for close to twelve months. Finally, it is racked and blended in stainless steel tanks for four to six months before bottling.
